SPOILER!!: Prefect Zander

At least let Zander have them fooled for the first month, alright?

Ahem. ANYWAYS.

He continued to climb up the last set of stairs until he made it right in front of the Fat Lady's portrait, where he turned around to face the group once again. "Almost there!" and after briefing them on the new password for the time being, he watched the portrait fly open and led them right inside. Only one thing on his mind at the moment: What could they possibly be doing with blue flames and sa--Woah.

This place looked FANTASTIC!!! "Welcome home, Gryffindors!" Man. There was just something about the air in here. Whatever it was, it was working. Zander couldn't stop smiling.

Oh and erm.... Uh.... Professor Quigley was the new Gryffindor Assistant and... Erm.... This would be a very interesting term. And an awkward one. And uh, "Hi Sir,".... Ahem. "Hello Professor Flamsteed, this place looks fantastic!" Oh and one more thing, Sir Nicholas! "A beach, huh?" Ghost had his work cut out for him after all.

Bowing to the prefect as he entered, the ghost could not help but beam proudly towards the young man. "I told you it was something spectacular."

What was all of this? It looked awesome was what it was. A grin spread across her face before she quickly shook it off. Please. She was a sixth year now and had nothing to really be impressed by. After all, she needed to show all the younger students that she was pretty much better than them in every single way.

Sort of. She wasn't exactly keen on making friends with the youngsters. She kicked the sandy ground - just to make sure it was actually sand - and couldn't help but allow that grin to creep back onto her face. It was like summer hadn't ended and that was pretty awesome.

"PARTY ROCKERS IN THE HOOOOUUUSEEEEE."

Because this was a party, there was sand and there was food and if this wasn't an awesome party she did not know what would be.

"Professor Flamsteed, Professor Quigley, fabulous party," Bianca said, smiling at the two professors before taking a bunch of marshmallows and walking around eating it...

and possibly throwing them at the fire to watch it burn. BUUUURRRRN.

Oh hey. Sir Nicholas was here. "YOOO. Sup Sir Nicholas?!"

Greetings? Check. Being cool? Sunglasses emoji here please.

Sup? Sup.

One would think after the centuries spent in the castle that he would be a bit more aware of the turns of phrases used by students.

"Pardon?" he questioned, leaning his semitransparent head towards the Gryffindor to make sure he did not miss what it was she had said this time around.

Which is why he ended up carrying his cloak in a bundle in front of him, totally not looking suspicious or anything.

Nothing but air in this cloak here. Totally.

However, what kept him from cringing at the fact that onion gravy was coating his wrapped up fresh cleaned cloak was the wonderment that was Hogwarts. The castle was even larger than he imagined and a million times more amazing. Did everyone see the MOVING staircases? And the talking portraits?? AND...

Holy snaps, he could've exploded after realizing the portrait in front of them just OPENED and revealed a hidden passage into... Holy Merlin on a honeycomb popsicle. Was it possible for a mind to go numb? He couldn't look at and process everything in the Common Room fast enough. It was a mind overload. He was left staring with his mouth open at the ceiling that looked like the night sky.

Excitement brain freeze.

Deciding it might not have been that important, he simply shrugged and moved on to the man's health. "She thinks you've been a bit off today. I personally think you're about the same weird as always but there you have it."

Know what else they had? A ghost floating in to warn them of the students' arrival. So soon? Hadn't they JUST left the Great Hall?

It was no wonder Airey ran.

So. Loud.

Maddox cringed as the Prefect entered the room and yelled a greeting. Why did just about every aspect of life involve shouting? Just because this place looked like the outside didn't mean they needed outside voices, in fact the walls were still very much present and the sounds were very much bouncing off them.

Ow.

The Charms Professor gave a pained nod toward the boy when he was addressed, obviously already not impressed with him for this term. TSK. "Hello Mister Adair. I'll be needing a word with you in my office when you've got some time." Not a suggestion, or an invitation but a command. Surely the boy would know that much. "We have certain matters to discuss." But, you know, until then. "Enjoy the party."

See? He was still a nice guy sorta.

"I take it you like what you see." Maddox commented to the gaping First Year. They were usually the easiest to impress in all honesty but that didn't make it any less rewarding to see the excitement on their faces. Meant he'd done a brilliant job.

"Care to try your hand at some of these flames?"

The noise level on Miss Caruso was almost expected. Truly and this time, though there was a small grimace, the Professor was sure to pick his expression right back up and pull it into a smile because she was not Zander Adair so he didn't need to hold it against her.

"Thank you, Bianca. You mind tossing me one of those marshmallows you got there?"

Might as well, she was tossing them to the flames anyway and the man could go for something sweet.

*SQUINT*

Did that kid.....was that....his robe though....

For a few seconds, Maddox simply stared at the awe stricken First Year, wondering what the hell he might have just smuggled into the Common Room. Quite the curious thing it was too because Maddox was almsot sure he was smelling....onion gravy.

Hands now buried in his pockets he casually walked over, circling the boy albeit predatorily. "Whatchu got there?" Juuust curious. Sniff sniff.

A transfer from the Charms School? Maddox grinned widely, his unusually large canines becoming all the more visible as he did. This was absolutely brilliant, wasn't it? A new kid that wouldn't be starting from scratch. "It's a pleasure meeting you Yoongi, I especially look forward to having you in my class." Seriously, he now held a certain standard for this kid and would be sorely disappointed if he didn't match up well enough.

"Were you learning the more advanced charms there?" Old curiosity really. Maddox had always wanted to go to Charms School but it had never been in the cards.

Ah the first of the Valentine sisters to arrive. Maddox nodded warmly at her. "Doing alright Miss Valentine, and you? Had a good summer?" That was the sort of thing Professors were meant to ask, correct?

Oh look! One of his more liked students!

"Hello, Mister Rogers." He shook his head ruefully, as if he was about to recall a truly tragic tale, though it was partially in amusement as the boy got himself more comfortable. "I'm afraid we had to cut the ropes out of the night's plans. Borrowed the Caretaker to test the ropes and when we pushed him....he didn't come back up. Truly horrible and he will be missed but for that reason we're staying mostly on our feet tonight."

Why did anyone want such a horrid thing? Bungee jumping. HEIGHTS. He could go without the lot of them so naturally when brainstorming with Airey he chose this. What other option was there?

Hold the snitch.

There was a floating, talking Barrel of apples suddenly in the Common Room. NO ONE PANIC OR EVEN TOUCH THEM because they were officially HIS. Oh Merlin, what was this night? It was only after he heard the tiny voice that he finally remembered the patronus he had sent down to the kitchen. Bless the little elf, a whole barrel. He hadn't bee expecting that much but who was he to complain as he nicked one from the top and bit into it.

"Nothing else for now." Crunch. "I think we're all set until the children are ready to go to bed. This is highly appreciated. You are highly appreciated." And he was getting emotional about the barrel of apples. Could you tell?

Crunch.

And look, there was young Benjamin. "Good evening Mister Atreyu. I trust you got your wand back just fine?" Last he'd heard, Bellaire had plans to give it back and Airey was going to see to it that she did.

How had that worked out?

Maddox.....wasn't going to introduce himself. He wasn't going to yell to a room of students when they would all be quiet and listening to his introduction tomorrow. Intros twice in the space of 24 hours? Did he look THAT bored to anyone? The man didn't think so.

What he WOULD do was scowl at Airey til he was done. "You're almost as bad as Mister Adair." Only almost, because he actually liked Airey. "Must you always be so loud? Bust my eardrums while you're at it, Circe."

But hang on, that wasn't the only thing. "Classes start tomorrow...?" Blink. Huh. In his head he had at least another week.

Wow.

That is...

...until he was caught REDHANDED by the other professor.

Keep cool, Lance. Keep cool. Stop sweating.

"Oh, ummm uh... my cloak," he said, staring at the material in his hands before his gaze turned innocently back to the man, cheeks puffing out after a moment. The familiar burning along his neck and ears was beginning, but he was ignoring it. It was just warm in here, was all.

Sir Nicholas' heart leaped out of his chest when he saw the appearance of Sir Lancelot. Well, his heart would have done so if he had a beating heart left. And then, to the ghost's great horror, the Charms professor had interception the first year before he could complete his quest.

"Professor!" his voice boomed as he quickly glided his way over towards the two. "I do hope you won't find it an inconvenience if I took the young one aside and had a word with him?"

And it was very admirable that Sir Lancelot had not proceeded immediately to tell turns of the truth. Sir Nicholas puffed his chest out in pride.

It literally took the astronomer a moment or two to process what it was Maddox was saying, his brain searching its every crevice for a proper medical condition with the laymen's term of "blue cloak syndrome" and coming up blank. What was he....OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! Okay, he got it. Har har, Maddox, har har.

"Wouldn't that be a real shame. When I procre---" he began, quickly biting his tongue and eyes refocusin entirely on the balls he was juggling. Had to break the record, after all. He was a man on a mission! "Uuuuuuuuuuuh....Really? Whatever gave her that impression?"

He didn't have time to explain the way he stored things away in his memory as Sir Nicholas appeared just in the the nick (har har!) of time to give them the warning that students were on their way up from the feast. Nor did he have time to even thank the ghost as Gryffindor after Gryffindor came flooding in through the entrance.

His personal favorite time of the evening was seeing how first years entered. Some looked like large mouth bass gasping for air while others looked as though that had just eaten an entire year's worth of sugar quills.

"Well done, Mr. Adair," he saluted the sixth year. "Haven't lost anyone, have you?" Airey had been THAT first year himself, so he wouldn't exactly hold the young man accountable were that the case. Just another message to tag on to the one already sent to the house elves if it were true.

Whether that had been an intentional pun or not, the professor laughed.

Rocker. Rock. Pebbles was a rock. It was hilarious.

"Good evening, Miss Caruso," he greeted, shifting his juggling from two hands to one.

And since he was the master of selective multitasking...

"GOOD EVENING EVERYONE! ROAR ROAR GRYFFINDOR!" he roared, holding just his left hand out wide to greet students. His right hand was still very much occupied by his bluebell flame balls. "To all our newly sorted, welcome to Gryffindor. I am Professor Flamsteed - although you may also call me Professor Airey if it suits your fancy - and I am the professor of Astronomy here at Hogwarts, as well as your Head of House." He would allow Maddox to introduce himself as he saw fit. He had heard the grumbling about the Headmistress making it publicly known of his ties to Gryffindor this term. Sir Nicholas as well. The house ghost did seem to enjoy talking about himself, so why deny the fellow the opportunity? "To all our returning students, welcome back! The night is still young, so please enjoy yourselves here in the common room for as long as you like. You are welcome to depart to your dormitories whenever you wish. So, enjoy yourselves, but be mindful that lessons DO start tomorrow." His and Maddox's lesson included in the line up.

"HERE HERE!" Sir Nicholas cheered.

This place was truly magnificent! He had loved the ceiling at the Great Hall and was surprised that it had been bewitched in here as well to look like the night sky. Was this because their Head of House was an astronomy teacher? It sure had his touch to it. Next what caught his attention were the water slides and he couldn’t wait to try them. He had only been here for half a day and it was already different than at his old school.

Spotting the Astronomy professor, Yoongi walked towards him immediately. “This place looks so good! I can’t believe this is my House now” He said as he looked around him for another second before turning back. “Oh , by the way Professor. I never got the chance to official get a pet rock, can I still have one?” because he liked them.

Next up was a man he had seen at the Staff table (Professor Quigley) and he smiled at him. “Hello! I’m Yoongi, new transfer student from Charms school” and oooh the ghost was here too! He was nice, maybe a bit grumpy over his name but who cared? “Sir Nicholas! Hi!” he waved both of his hands in the direction of the House Ghost.

Now…which one of the students should he befriend? First step was the male Prefect because it was good having a Prefect on your side. He walked resolutely towards the slightly older boy.“Thanks for your work of showing us the way here” good conversation opening right?

"Hello there," he smiled. "Welcome to your new home away from home."

Quite nice not to speak to each other with such terms as 'ghost' and 'living person', wasn't it?

This looked fun... though, apparently no bungee?

That whole spiel though... lessons tomorrow, he was happy to forget that for now. He was bound to be tired anyway, staying up wouldn't change anything when he wasn't accustomed to waking early regardless.

"Hey Professor Airey, heeeeellloooo Professor Quigley," he greeted the men with a nod as he shrugged off his robe and abandoned it along with his tie before kicking off his shoes and socks. Who needed clothes when there was sand? Really? "Decided not to make the bungee a tradition then?" he asked casually, and perhaps with a tinge of disappointment.

Seeing Sir Nicholas, Zeke offered him a wave too, "Had a good summer Sir Nicholas?" he asked, stretching his arms above his head and then around his back. Y'know, stretching was important before going nuts.

Not wishing to further lament on his request to join the Headless Hunt being denied, again, Sir Nicholas focused on the other bits of his summer that had not been so dismal. "Pleasant enough," he nodded. "I would be willing to bet galleons on your's being much more exciting."
SPOILER!!: Benny

Thankfully they were soon enough back at the portrait hole and the sixth year took note of the given password before he made his way into the home away from home.

Oh it was good to be back!

And Professor Flamsteed...and Quigley?!...had certainly outdone themselves. Again for the head of house. "Good evening Professors," he greeted both men with a small smile. At least it wasn't anything like the last time he had been in close proximity of both men last term. Even if one could technically be out of breath from traveling from the Great Hall to the tower. Benny simply nodded politely to the House Ghost as they had already greeted each other this evening.

Sir Nicholas politely returned the gesture with a warm smile.

SPOILER!!: Marsha

She’d EVEN be willing to bet a few knuts on it… but only a few because she was that confident that she would get lost in the corridors and wings and floors.

AND THE MOVING STAIRCASES!

Once again, Marsha had been sure that her aunts and uncles had been lying to her - and once again they hadn’t been. Silently, she wondered when she would stop being surprised that they hadn’t lied to her. Hmmm. But… was there really a place where you could go and SEE And PLAY with animals? She had yet to hear about that ANYWHERE. Maybe she should ask one of the Prefects… it sounded so cool if there actually wassss something like that.

However, right now she was paying attention and trying not to get lost and counting the corridors and OH! Common room entrance. Pay attention to the password. Right.

Marsha waited in turn as they filed into the common room (that was behind a huge portrait - how awesome!) and then when it was her turn she froze in spot and only remembered to move when the first year behind her bumped into her. ”Sorry, sorry.” She muttered as she stared upwards at the ceiling and then down at the - WAS THAT SAND???? OH MY GRIFFIN!!! IT WAS SAND!

THIS WAS SO AWESOME.

Blinkblink.

Still looking around the room, she moved around trying to take everything in. Tapestries, portraits, fireplace, books and sofas and books and tables! Guh, so much awesome. Before she could find any of her fellow first years, she stopped moving as one of the grown-ups started talking.

Oh! Professor Airey. Yes. Benny and some of the others had mentioned him, silently she wondered if he really liked his theatrics as much as they had told her. Shrugging, she figured she would find out for herself in his first class. OH! Which was tomorrow. Awesome.

Still grinning like a maniac, the almost twelve eleven year old started to move around trying to find Lance or Zak or Rusty… or Evie or Wylie. WHY WERE THEY ALL SO LITTLE? Though, she was short too, well under 5’0 and currently trying to find friends in a room of BIG people. So not helpful. Sighing, she made a face and decided to say hi to the closest person regardless of who it was. Taking a deep breath she turned around and tapped someone on the arm as she grinned upwards (what - they were ALL taller than her).

”Hi,” GRIN. ”I’m Marsha.”

"Charming to make your acquaintance," the ghost smiled as he glided by.

She hadn't yet noticed her own reaction but along with the increased heartbeat, her breathing had quickened. Okay was he joking? Did they torture children here? Evie was now becoming terrified of the place. GREAT.
First years were often the most darling little things.

"Those are no ordinary flames, Evie," the ghost whispered as he glided elegantly over to her side. "They are a magic flame that will not and cannot burn you. I have seen the overconfident singe their robes with them, however."

All magic required careful and diligent observation or else risk injury or death. Though he kept such thoughts to himself.

She wanted to try that."Good job there Flamsteed." And there was Maddox too. "Hey, Professor Maddox. Nice job on decorating." She was speaking to both of them.

Foood. Not like she just ate a feast or anything she grabbed a cupcake and a handful of marshmallows. The sixth year found a empty beach towel and flopped down on it. It was almost like summer wasn't over yet. She was going to roast some marshmallows But first she inhaled the cupcake.
Sir Nicholas waved towards the young woman as she entered.

He let out a low whistle when he saw the common room. This. This was nice. Best way to be welcomed back really. It was a nice fitting end to summer. He grabbed some roasting sticks and marshmallows before plopping down in the sand next to Cinna.
Mitchell received a wave as well.

He was not sure how long he would linger here in the common room, having a few personal matters he wished to attend to, but he supposed he could spare another few minutes or so. He did, after all, have an eternity to deal with his personal affairs.
