He had forgotten his promise that he had made to himself at the end of last term. That he would go after the dark creatures in the forest my his home. What would it prove? Nothing, and he knew that, but it might make him feel better. Noah never handled loss very well, big or small.
But he was distracted from his promise by his stupid family. His mother wanted to come back into his life now, after nine years. His mother was the last person he would ever want to get back into contact with but his sister and father had other plans. That spoiled his summer holidays for sure. But at least now he was back at Hogwarts away from his father and the chance of being forced to see his mother.*
"She didn't want us before, so why couldn't she just stay away..."
*He mumbled to himself as he watched his sister Emma at the Gryffindor table skip over to her friends smiling.*

Daisy might have lost Noah on the train after he threw a cauldron cake at her, but she had found him again as they entered the school and now she was following him into the Great Hall, bits of cauldron cake that he had thrown at her were falling off her sweater as she walked. (Seriously? What did they make those things out of?)

She passed a bowl of pudding and wished she could pick it up and dump it over Noah’s head, but that would make her no better than he. “What,” she settled for yelling instead of a food fight. “Is your deal?” she asked from behind Noah loudly after he had sat down. Seriously! After she’d been all nice to his crabby butt in the ice cream parlor and everything. A large piece of cauldron cake took that moment to fall off her sweater and onto the floor with a splop. Apparently the cake only came off with it wanted to, and poor Daisy had spent a good portion of the train ride trying to get the cake off her sweater, just like last year she spent the train ride trying to unstick her hair from the cake and the train wall. Her sweater had faired as well as her hair which still hadn’t fully grown back.
