Granted the training had seemed to drag with the various issues and changes in the department at each turn, but almost a decade? That simply reminded him he was also nearing his next milestone birthday which was another moment of disbelief.
As for his so-called living up to expectations... "It was an attempt to be modest." You know, not be like the MLE types that liked to think they were so much better than others. Or former Gryffindor types for that matter. The security man was far more down to earth.
Simon nodded as she asked about him playing, smiling at the memory. "My last few years at Hogwarts for the house team, captained the last two." And then gave it up for the most part, something that had sent certain classmates into a tizzy. The quidditch manager's son, reminded him briefly of Jacob and his one-track mind connection to the sport. "Maybe..." he mused in agreement, girlfriends did have that effect on you.
He watched modestly concerned as her expression went bad but thankfully she seemed to recover. The former Gryffindor didn't need to ask who the she the woman was refering to. "Or she snuck a bat in there.." he mused with slightly raised eyebrow. Vic would appreciate a quidditch joke...right? The topic was switched to his department and it was Simon's turn to take a deep breathe. "Its been...interesting," he answered at first, " and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about him." Wow Ten years, though she had been with the ministry for seven, so not too far behind him, but ten years was impressive. “That shows such dedication. Such a high turnover rate here it seems. I’m always finding myself with new faces and new people to train.” She knew other areas were experience the same issue. She had just got Benji and he was already gone. It was sad really, she hated that they didn’t keep people very long. Something needed to change to make people want to stay, but then there were people like herself and Simon that stuck with it, worked with the new and old.
She gave him a sweet smile, “I know, but you do many things here. It’s good to get recognition for that once in awhile.” She knew how the hard work behind the sense felt at times. She had felt that a few years ago and then again with the ministry election. Though her love for her work always took over her feelings of self-importance at the ministry. “I so wish they’d bring back Quidditch at the school. It’s so sad not to have it there. I played for my house team as well. I so enjoyed it and it helped make me more confident.” She remembered her overly shy days. She hated the thought of some not getting that team experience.
She laughed as he mentioned a bat, “Bart will be pleased. He has already tried to get the four year olds bats, I keep telling him no. They will just use them on each other instead of learning Quidditch, but he is trying. So telling him Helena has a bat before birth would excite him way too much.” She chuckled, maybe she would be a beater like her brother one day. It didn’t really matter to Victoria, they could all hate Quidditch as far as she cared. She just wanted her children all happy and healthy.
Her expression changed as he talked about the new guy. “I was so shocked to hear of Emily and Gavin leaving. It was a shame to lose them.” She was personally sad over it because they are friends to her and she liked seeing them around. “Well hopefully your impression of him will change after working for awhile. Change is always hard no matter what the circumstances are.” She thought about when Mariel took Department Head and the awkward it had brought between them, though they worked through it and were completely fine now.
