Alrightey. Time to focus on the lesson again. Aha. Transit Cycles, huh? And it dealt with first, middle and last names? Welllll, Adi had no middle name so he supposed his cycles would have to make use of his first and last names alone.

He flipped to the indicated page of his textbook and read. Oh looky! There was something there about those who had no middle names. "For those who do not have a middle name, the last name provides the Transit information for both the Mental and the Spiritual,'' he read. Cool!

Now to find out about the meaning of T. After reading carefully and pondering on his answer, the Hufflepuff stuck his hand up. "Even though you were that young, Professor, you wanted to learn... possibly from your parents. I think you realised you wanted to be like them so you possibly spent that time trying to copy their habits; they way they walked or talked and other physical aspects and was determined to do so.''

Er, did that make sense?!
Adi was first off the blocks. She pointed at him and nodded to let him know he had the floor. "It is true that children learn through exploration and imitation at young ages. Good point."

The discussion moved to a comparison of musical scores to life. So that Was where the song lists came in. Made total sense. The Arithmancy stuff made sense too - up to an extent. Lux had read a little about the Transit Cycles so she knew what they were, but as she had never tried calculating them for herself she had no idea how accurate they were. Even if she was still young, she could gage how accurate they were up to her current age.

Arithmancy was a lot like Divination in more ways than the obvious - they were both hit or miss in her opinion.

Opening her textbook to the correct page, Lux read over what Professor Tanner's first letter meant before raising her hand. "There is a mention of wanting to find new activities, and babies love exploring and being stimulated. So I think that means you were a very curious baby that loved to play and be in different environments. It also mentions learning, and that could be things you picked up from your parents like words once you learned to talk and going from crawling to walking." Ugh, it was harder to do interpretations on babies.
Tiara nodded enthusiastically. She laughed as she said, "My mother always said I was a curious baby, always having to be picked up and brought back close so I didn't run away. Sounds spot on."

After all, he supposed that was the reasoning for them needing it, especially in a subject such as Arithmacy.

But alas, he had a list of three songs that resided on the table in front of him. And then Professor Tyner was asking about them and how they made him feel. The only thing he could think of while he thought about it was that he felt somewhat connected to them, the lyrics mostly. Though a musical group with dragons in the title had its own appeal.

He remained quiet however and before long they were moving on to something else, the fifth year listening carefully as the woman read from their arithmacy book. The part where it talked about transit cycles specifically. Three more numbers that had three different meanings that dealt with three different aspects of yourself from which you got your calculations. This time it was their full name.

As instructed, Benny looked up the meaning of the 't' in the professor's name, reading through it a few times to try and get a gist of it. At least something he might be able to vocalize. Adi and Lux both had interesting things to say about it, stuff that made some sense to him to, but he figured to maybe add a little more. "You may have been easy to upset or cry do to the high strung emotions," he supplied after he first raised his hand. "And were fine with moments to yourself in between your learning."
Oh, that was an interesting take. "Yes, I do believe I remember hearing that I was a fussy youngster. Unfortunately," she finished with a wink.

Angel listened to the next question. "Is it because you are always trying to learn new things and you explore but you have to be very careful otherwise you will be in serious trouble as you will start to get a lot of self pity." Angel smiled.
Part of what Angel said was spot on, but the later comments didn't make much sense to Tiara. "I don't know how much a one-year-old child starts to have feelings of self-pity. I'm guessing not much, but it's possible the tendencies could start to develop at that tender age." She was no child psychologist, so she was really just guessing.

People had some interesting song choices, but Zander's... hahahaha. He TOTALLY made that up on the spot, didn't he? Sophie gave him an amused look and tried to see if he had even written anything down or if he had come up with those right then, but she couldn't see. One could bet she'd tease him about it after class, though.

Sophie smiled fondly at Tobes' song choices, then went ahead and took some light notes as the professor spoke some more, considering Transit Cycles and flipping through her textbook to reference the page to keep up. Interesting, this was, and she wanted to go ahead and figure out her own stuff straight away... but the professor wanted them to practice on her name. She could do that.

"It talks about traveling," she offered with a raised hand, "and seeing the world. Maybe you were a really curious kid, the kind who was always crawling or walking everywhere and wanted to see everyone and everything. Very mobile. Always on the go, probably drove your parents loony wondering where you'd run off to." If the transit thing was right, of course.
"Well I don't know about driving them loony.." she said with a mischievous grin. "But I was a very mobile child. I barely crawled at all, just skipped that part and started walking at a very young age." It wasn't unheard of, but it was rare.

OKAY SO... basically life was like that complicated note music, that was what Toby was hearing, though he was only really half-concentrating, so focused was he on his determination to NOT get distracted. Just wasn't working. But he DID pick up on the stuff about Transit Cycles, and looked in his textbook to try and follow along.

At the prompt, Toby found the right part of his textbook and stared. Uhhh... this was just for the first two years of life, right? Well... Toby didn't know much about the first two years of life. The only baby he'd ever known was his little brother Curtis, who was still only a couple of months old. Still, Toby usually liked to try answering, so he stuck his hand in the air anyway.

"Uhh, I reckon... well, strain and high strung emotions, that's like... what people usually say happens with two-year-olds, right? So maybe it would have been, uh... moreso. Then there's 'looking for new activities and eager to learn', that could be learning about the world and being super curious, like how sometimes you get those REEEEAL curious kids who want to know about everything, like little Ravenclaws, and sometimes get themselves into trouble. I dunno about the business part, but seeing the world makes sense. I mean, when you're new to the world, of course you're gonna see more and more of it every day, right? But maybe in this case there'd be way more moving about and learning about surroundings and stuff? Maybe, I dunno."

Oh, hey! This would have been similar to an interpretation for him too, right? 'Cause he had a T name and all. He... wasn't sure how fitting it was to him, not knowing much about how he'd been back then.
The professor nodded along as Tobias spoke. "Yes. I don't have much to add to that, as you summed it up nicely." No sense wasting words.

Arithmancy

-three transits: the physical, mental, and spiritual.
-each is derived from your first, middle, and last name respectively.
-together: give an overall view of your life stages and how long each stage will last
Example: Simon.
Physical: S.

Simon paused. Wait. They were supposed to be looking at her name, weren't they? He quickly shifted his glance to the letter 'T'. Then he read the description. Taking notes here and there.

SPOILER!!: Simon's Notes

Example: T

Alright, now.. How would this apply to Tanner from birth to age two. :err: Well this was going to be tricky to phrase. Ermm.... Simon jotted down some notes to collect his thoughts and then raised his hands to offer an opinion. "It talks about benefiting from 'solitude'. This may be important for a two year old so they understand that it's okay to not be with their parents every second of the day. Though I'm not sure if it's a really good idea to leave two year olds alone... But anyway... As for 'strong desire for knowledge', 'new partnerships', and 'travel and see the world' that could relate to your natural curiosity to learn new things and make new friends?"

That kind of made sense, right?
Ah, someone had seen the part about solitude. "My parents did say I went through a stage of separation anxiety, so I couldn't let them out of my sight. And yes, in general I think it's a bad idea to leave toddlers alone," she said, nodding in agreement.

Alright Kace got this kind of? He shrugged and began to look in his textbook to see what the letter T meant. He skimmed through and copied it down in his notes just so the Professor could see...

SPOILER!!: Notes

T: This is a time of strain and high-strung emotions. You are willing to sacrifice and carry your burdens heroically, but you will have to guard against self-pity. You will benefit from solitude and meditation. You are looking for new activities and are eager to learn. You have a strong desire for knowledge. This is a good and rewarding time for business and new partnerships but you have to guard your territory against those seeking to interfere in your work. There will be opportunities to travel and see the world.

Now she wanted to know how it applied to her physical transit? Whatever that meant. She wanted to know how it applied to her birth year to two years old. Ermm let's see here. He began to reread it and then it clicked. He raised his hand and gave his answer. "Professor I know that when you are a child you will be okay with being alone for a bit. It will help you find ways to learn about the world and learn things on your own. It will benefit you in the long run. You can even make new friends when you were a toddler? You will need to be cautious of how much you share with your friends though but I mean it wouldn't matter TOO much since you can't really talk when ur a toddler." he added in with a sheepish grin.

Did he answer the question? He hoped he did!
She had a bit of trouble following Kace's answer. It seemed a bit rambling at times, but she tried her best to respond. "You are correct that speech skills are not highly developed at that age, so the caution probably would not be necessary." She had not begun talking until later than normal, actually, which was the opposite of her motor skills development. "I'm not sure how many playmates I had when I was younger, so I'll reserve judgement on that part."

Obviously she saw right through it and new that he had completely made up those picks off the top of his head. And he was also absolutely sure that she would bring it up later and tease him mercilessly about it. Oh Merlin.

He brought this one upon himself, really.

Anyways, he listened intently as Tanner went on to explain the significance of letters and such, and the different names and cycles. Huh, if a person didn't have a middle name, would that mean they just didn't have a me-- Oh. Adi was all on top of that. Was the kid real into Arithmancy or something? Remind Zander to nudge him before OWLs. Ahem. Anyways, he skimmed through his textbook, listening to what others had to say all the while.

Well, in his expert opinion HA there wasn't much else to add on. Emotions. Travel. People had hit it all, really. Solitude and-- Huh? "I reckon the high strung emotions make tons of sense, since babies cry at anything, really. Don't know any better. But erm, would a one year old really benefit from meditation?".... Or a better question would have been, do babies even know how to meditate?
"No, I doubt meditation would help, though I think naps could be substituted there easily, as they are meant to rejuvenate and calm. And yes, babies do cry at everything. However, that is their only form of communication, so I would not say it is all out of pure emotions, but out of necessity sometimes." If you can't tell someone you're sitting in a dirty diaper, your only option is to cry. Anyone would do it, yes?

The third year wrote 'Transit Cycles' in small letters under her original title of 'Happy Music Things' which she'd written at the top of her parchment before pulling her textbook towards her.

The Puffer took the time to read the letter's description twice through, then looked up and put a hand in the air. "The book says stuff about lots of emotions, which makes sense 'cause babies under two cry a lot even when we don't think there's a reason to be all emotional." That she knew. She'd had to go through that two whole times with her ickle brothers. "And then there's all that about wanting to learn and explore, which totally makes sense too 'cause babies don't know a whole lot and they learn so much when they're ickle just from looking around and their parents doing stuff." Learning the whole entire english language and how to walk and everything was nothing to be taken lightly, nope.
She had already addressed the emotional aspect previously, so she chose not to repeat herself after Norah's answer. "People learn more in the first few years of life than at any other time. It's amazing, really, how they can soak in so much information so quickly." Spot on there, Kittredge.

But she could not understand how a two-year-old would have "strain and high-strung emotions" blah blah blah. Even she did not make sacrifices and stuff, and she was fifteen. She read the text again and this time oooooh developed a new idea. The Hufflepuff raised her hand high. "Professor, do you have any sibilings?" Leah asked when she was acknowledged. "Because then you might have sacrificed willingly for them even though it might bring you burden."

The thought of that made her want a sibiling again. But what could she do?
Hmm, interesting thought. "Unfortunately no, I do not have any siblings. But that would certainly be an excellent connection for a lot of people with T as their first letter." They even had one in the room: Tobias. "Good call."

"Right, lots of good ideas, some of which I didn't even think of myself. Please take a look at your own first name. Remember, each letter assumes the value from the Pythagorean system. TIARA totals..." She wrote up 2+9+1+9+1, then thought for a second before writing the sum 22. A Master number! "So in total, my physical transit lasted the first 22 years of my life. Some of you will be finished with yours already and some could be only halfway through." She loved how varied and particular this calculation could be. "Go ahead and find how long your physical transit lasts, then give me one big summary of all your letters' interpretations. Go!" This should be fun.
