Flapping and talons scratching alerted him to the morning, the sun BARELY peaking through the window coverings.
"Uuurggghhhhhh," Zeke grumbled as he swatted at the ever disheveled black barn owl. "Gerroofff me," he added through a yawn. He knew what time it was. It was EARLY, which meant his fairy needed feeding. He wasn't even sure if it was awake yet, but going by the twelve hour ritual they started, this was it.
Of course, being the spritely little thing, it WAS awake, and humming in its jar. "Yeah yeah... morning," he said to it as he took the fairy food bottle from his bed-side drawers. Popping the lid open, he sprinkled some of the flakes into the bottom of the jar, then returned them to the drawers. Of course, it wasn't enough to feed the fairy, the owl wanted food too. So obligingly, Zeke opened the top drawer and from the paper bag within extracted two owl treat pellets and placed them on the bed beside him. Everyone was eating but him... how depressing.
But enough, he could still catch a little nap before he had to be up for classes.
