Default CoMC Homework Post 1 - Getting accustomed to fairies (1/3)
Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight

Toby sat on his bed at the far end of the fifth year boy's dormitory, in the section furthest away from the door that led back to the common room. In his hands he held the jar of fairies from Care of Magical Creatures class, still raised up to eye level so he could see inside. The fairies were dancing around, having the time of their lives apparently, not seeming at all bothered that they were trapped in a glass jar. Toby watched them for a good while, entranced by their movement and the way they glowed and looked so like humans. Today was the first he'd ever seen a fairy; that sense of wonder he had when seeing new magical things for the first time was yet to disappear.

Eventually, Toby shifted over on his bed and placed the jar on his bedside table, and the little food bottle (which carried their homework instructions) next to it.

"So," he said to the occupants of the jar, now cross-legged on his bed and relaxed, as though he was sitting across from a friend. How exactly did you become accustomed to fairies? Toby wasn't ENTIRELY sure, but he figured talking (even more) to them wouldn't hurt. "I guess I should introduce myself. My name's Toby, and I will be looking after you for the duration of your stay here."

Proper, like, fancy server talk going on here. It was like they were at a high-end restaurant, except... they were in a jar, and would be with him for a little longer than just a meal.

Could they understand him? Again, probably not, but by talking they could continue getting used to the sound of his voice.

"Here, I'll show you around," Toby said, getting up off the bed and picking up the jar again. First he held it out so they could see all the pictures and stuff he had up by his bed. "Look, this is my family. That's a picture of my grandma, and that's my grandfather, but he's not around anymore. And this is a picture of me and my dads, right here," the Hufflepuff added, pointing out the picture in question, before moving on to other pictures and his Quidditch memorabilia. "That's my best friend, Soph, who's also my girlfriend. And those are my Quidditch flags; one for the Magpies, 'cause they're my team, and one for the Wanderers, 'cause a couple of friends of mine play for them. And this..." he sloooooooowly moved the jar around, not wanting to jolt the fairies living space too much, for fear that he might hurt them. "... is the rest of the dormitory. But you'll stay right here on my desk, of course, and I sleep in this bed, right next to it."

And that was it, really. Toby placed the jar back on the bedside table and leaned in to look at them again. The fairies seemed interested in him once more, and were already clearly getting used to his face.

"Oh!" Toby said suddenly, as he was struck by a FANTASTIC idea. "I have something you'll love!" The fairies were still looking at him curiously as he dashed to the end of his bed where his drunk was kept, and started to dig through it, pulling things out and throwing them every which way until he FOUND them. The wings that Wade had given him for his thirteenth birthday!

Tobias slipped them on and span in a circle, glad to see the glitter still worked. He headed straight back for the fairies and did a little twirl so they could see too.

"Now I'm more like you!" he said to them. The fairies in the jar DID seem to like the wings, so Toby felt GOOD about wearing them. He beamed and sat on his bed (which received a fair covering of glitter) again and peered into the jar. "I think I need to give you some names, soon. Thompson mentioned about finding a way to differentiate you too." Hmm... maybe that would come with time?

"C'mon, I'll show you around the castle," Toby said, scooping up the jar and the food bottle again, and heading back out of the dormitory. "I don't spend all that much time in here anyway. Ooh, I wonder if you'll like the pathways..."

And off Toby went again, fully intending to talk to these fairies all day long, in the hopes that they would end up super comfortable with him. They certainly seemed to be enjoying the attention.
