Ian was very encouraged by her tone, and cheerful spirit and overall attitude. Maybe he wasn't such a failure at this at all.
Thank you for the encouragement. Sorry to have bothered you with this.
When she asked him about his family, he fidgeted a little bit. His family wasn't really a big deal, but his dad wouldn't let him talk about it around the rest of the family. Said they wouldn't understand and they would mistreat him. Ian didn't think that was right, to hide who you were just because you were different. Then there was the whole secrecy from muggle law thing.
Well.... He began. He began to twist his hands in his lap and looked at his knees.
ummm....I...well you see.....it's not exactly.....I don't know. My mum and dad are ok...at least they say they are. But they said I can't say anything to anyone. It's almost like their ashamed of me. And then....well....I know it's important....and I don't want to say the Ministry's wrong and all.... and then he sort of trailed off. When she asked about Diagon Alley, he nodded excitedly.
Yes ma'am... And then he remembered.
Well...I mean they did this year, but I don't think I'll have any friends to spend time with next year. I made a complete mess of things this year and I haven't any friends to go see anymore. This part was completely and thoroughly humiliating and Ian lifted his left hand to his mouth and begin to chew on his thumbnail.
