Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all. Right? Right?
Right. Quote:

Especially when she was finding out interesting things like that one of her dormmates was from America too. That hadn’t been expected, given the whole story that most people who came here were from this country. She knew about transfers, of course. Her sister had been one, but none of them could be transfers. They got to come to Hogwarts from the beginning.
She had been about to answer Hady’s question, however, when miss disinterested had spoken and her blue eyes had flickered back to Maggie in surprise. The first thought was that she was answering the question for her, which was kind of rude. She was perfectly capable of answering questions asked of her all by herself, thank you very much. But then she narrowed her eyes as the possibility she wasn’t the only person from California had reached her mind. She was still special.
“‘M from San Diego,” she said, still watching Maggie even as she inserted her two cents into the discussion. Yes, she was from California too. So there. Nobody was going to usurp her position in this conversation. Besides, she’d gone lots of places because of her daddy and his Quidditch stuff. So she still had an advantage over other people. "Aww you did?" Go to California once. "Did you like it? Maggie grinned, pretending to be genuinely interested in what Hady had to say. "What's-" What had she said she was from again? Errrrrrrr. "-Long Island-" Yeah? "-like then?" Hmm?? She'd decided - in the past 10 seconds - that it was probably a good idea to make sure that at least one of her dorm mates was part of her group of minions friends.
And she had a feeling that Brooklyn was NOT going to be it.
Speaking of whom, the other girl was giving her weird looks. Surprised looks. Had she finally realized how awesome and beautiful she was?
Oh. Apparently that was not it. Or not solely. "San Diego." Maggie echoed the words, wrinkling her nose slightly. What did San Diego have? A zoo? Pfft. Lame. What else? Nothing. That was what. And she knew because she'd been there......once. Which had been enough. "I'm from Los Angeles." Just saying. That was WAAAAAAAYYYY cooler than San Diego. |
