So when she DID reply, Zeke stared some more and blinked. "Uhhhh... okay." This was an interesting way to start a confession, but at least in doing so she promised details.
Of course, what came next completely derailed his line of thinking. So... they DIDN'T do tests and experiments on muggles? There was no memory wiping or anything like that? He was relieved, though also somewhat disappointed. It made muggle studies sound all sorts of boring now. Did she miss anything? "Nope, I think you covered it," he approved with a nod, "though... does that mean I shouldn't do muggle studies?" he asked before clarifying. "It's just, I was a muggle, so does that make me already qualified? Would it be too easy if I took the class? Am I exempt from it? Do I automatically get an Outstanding for it?... Like a credit?" Again, in case he hadn't made things explicitly clear moments before, he wanted good grades. Perhaps she HAD overdone it slightly with the detail of sleeping habits, but one who asked so many questions must want answers, yes? And she was most certainly prepared to give them. Perhaps not always so detailed ... but perhaps he wouldn't ask so many questions either. Was she boring him? Hmm, in all seriousness though, Josephina found she didn't really care so much though. It wasn't like it was a lecture where she had to keep him engaged; no, he chose to come see her because he wanted answers. And if he didn't like the answers, then tough. "I think, even as a wizard," because he was a wizard or he wouldn't be here, yes? "I think as a wizard growing up in a muggle world, it'd be fascinating for you to see and experience muggle studies from a wizarding perspective." Fina nodded thoughtfully, placing her hands together casually. "So there's no automatic Outstandings given, but having grown up in the muggle world, you should find much of the topics to be review, albeit not all of it will be easy." There was nothing easy about cooking or using a computer or even playing sports or dueling. Some people may have been more talented than others, but those who weren't would learn. As she was sure Zeke would come to find on his own. Quote:

He could only stand there dumb-founded for a moment to process her question.
Finally, Ian hung his head and shook it from side to side as his shoulders drooped. He very nearly turned and ran again. He'd lost any confidence he had gained over the last three years and especially over the summer and he was back to a timid Hufflepuff, unsure of how to navigate this new world he found himself in. The shifting from side to side. The nervous headshake. It was Hadley needed to stand up and stride over to meet the fourth year at the office entrance. She didn't really know the boy like some of her others, but she knew this: he was a Hufflepuff and that was all that mattered. She extended her arm and touched his shoulder gently to navigate him towards the chairs. "Please. Talk to me." Because if he couldn't talk to her, who could he?
