"I know you probably don't need any help because you're a super capable woman," Soph whispered to her, because that's the way she would've wanted someone to talk to her if she needed help - completely downplaying the need of help, "but just in case, all we gotta do is use the scouring charm to clean out cauldron first, just to make sure we're not gonna cross-contaminate or anything. Like this." She pointed her wand at one of her stirring sticks and casted, "Scourgify. Just inside your cauldron instead. And a jobberknoll's a little blue bird - the feathers look like this." She stood up a little to point to the one she'd already dropped into her own cauldron. "D'you have one of those?" Should've been in her potions kit somewhere.
It was possible that Dot Wojack was going to chuck her cauldron across the dungeon out of frustration. Possible, and growing ever more likely, until she was rescued by the Older Girl sitting next to her. Instructions, whispered so that no one else would know Dot was bad at this, and nice words that were basically a promise that she didn't think poorly of Dot.

Yet. It was still early days.

Dot climbed up to kneel on her chair so she could point her wand directly into her cauldron, and then she gave the Girl a very serious are-you-sure-about-this look. What... if... what if? "Scourgify." Good news was that nothing blew up. Bad news was... it was hard to tell if anything had happened at all. But no explosions, so... good start.

Now she could start looking for a blue feather. Dot sorted through her potions kit until she found it stuck to the bottom of a phial, and when she mangled it out, the poor bent thing looked pretty sad. And... into the cauldron it went. "I'm Dot." Give something else, Wojack. "I'm delightful." That's what her gran said.
