Victor knew he shouldn’t have been shocked. Cavendish had taken his shirt away as soon as he spoke the lie, and just because the girl didn’t connect the dots at that exact moment, didn’t mean she wouldn’t eventually figure it out. Still, he’d rather hoped she would’ve forgotten all about that slip-up.

“You lied to me and I need to know why.”
What was he supposed to do now? He could try shooing her off, ordering her to get lost, as he always did every time she asked a difficult question, one he couldn’t answer. But even Victor Vincenzi, cruel and selfish as he may be, knew to be fair. After everything they’d been through - she’d been through that night, after ruining her date and severely injuring a boy who at least wasn’t afraid to show her how he really felt (unlike him), he knew the least he could do for her was speak.

Also, things were different now.
He had an answer. After weeks and months of finding himself at a loss for words every time the girl brought up his unusual behaviour, Victor finally had the answer.

“…I did lie,” he finally confessed, icy blue eyes honest for a change. “I didn’t kiss you because I was ‘bored’.” He almost could’ve laughed at how pathetic that lie had been. So simple, without a thought, and yet Airlia had believed him completely. She'd always trusted him too much...

“I kissed you… because, Airlia…”
