Reduce and analyze...well she sorta remembered the reducing part - just adding all the stuff together, right? - but she didn't have a textbook to help with the analyzing stuff. 'Cause really, after two years of not taking Arithmancy, there was no way she'd still remember all the things each number meant.

But first, just the reducing since that seemed easier.

Text Cut: Penelope's work
5 May 1862
5 + 5 + 1862
5 + 5 + (1+8+6+2)
5 + 5 + 17
5 + 5 + 8
18 = 1 + 8 = 9

5 May
5 + 5
10 = 1 + 0 = 1

5 = 5

So assuming she'd done it right...time for analyzing somehow. Maybe she could just guess at it?

Text Cut: Penelope's interpretations

9 - I think I remember this number is the last one in that one number system that goes from 0 to 9 or 1 to 9 (I don't remember exactly), but I guess since it's the "final" one, it could symbolize completion and endings? So the Mexican army was fighting for stuff and wanted to win, and then they did actually win the battle, so they sort of completed what they set out to do. And with endings, there was something about it being the last time any European country invaded the Americas, so obviously that's an ending.

1 - 1 might be the actual first number of that one system, so it could symbolize beginnings? And I guess winning the battle was sort of like a new beginning for the Mexican army and country.

5 - I don't know, all I can think of is that 5 is half of ten and is halfway between 1 and 9, so maybe it symbolizes that? A halfway point? Turning point? And I guess the battle was a sort of turning point for a lot of things that were mentioned.

Meh, that was all she had. Numbers were weird.
