Being lost alone was enough of an embarrassment, but now there was actually someone around! A nice friendly someone who gave him a nice friendly wave and a smile and jeeez. Was there a information booth around here somewhere? Cause Hogwarts should think about investing in one of those.
Zander listened as the friendly guy did some not so friendly spells on some of the dummies in the room. Oof. That's gotta hurt. Of course, it probably didn't because they were just dummies after all... Ahem anyways. He needed to get back to the common room! Or at least he needed to get headed in the right direction... Actually any sort of lead would help at this point.
So the Gryffindor made his way over to the friendly boy. Slowly, but surely. As he got near, his face started turning a lovely shade of pink! What a joy. The blush. "Erm... Hi?" What. An. Embarrassment. Kevin would be so disappointed in him right now. He casually leaned towards the boy and tried his hardest from breaking a sweat. But they were definitely on their way. The sweat always made an appearance when he was nervous. Darn sweat.
... So how could he just y'know caaasuuually ask for directions without looking like a totally loser?
Toby had just been shaking out his hands and fidgeting by shifting to each foot, partly because he was 'limbering up' for more spellwork but mostly because the urge to keep moving was still strong. Always.
He'd just raised his wand to put out the dummy with a stream of water so he could try to blow it up next, but the other kid who was in the arena spoke up from nearby. Toby turned to look at him, smiling all the while, wondering if the boy wanted to make friends or just needed some kind of help with something.
"Hi," the Hufflepuff replied in that friendly manner of him, taking in the other boy's slightly pink face but knowing not to comment on it.
"What's up?" A simple question that could be interpreted as either a type of greeting, or a genuine question of 'how are you'/'whatchu doin'?'.
And still that one word buzzed constantly around his mind, as it always did when Tobias stumbled across a new person.
Friend?
