"I saw you weren't eating." And breakfast was supposed to be the most important meal of the day. That was what she told Briar all the time, anyway. Motherly duties to get the kid to eat her cereal and not think that hair was the best place for it.

Whilst she waited for the woman to answer, Eli reached into the little bag and ate a couple of sweets for herself. "My coffee is fine though, thank you. Just right." And she wasn't going to be telling her what 'just right' meant, because she'd already spoken with a mouth full of chewy sweets and felt like her own mother was going to scold her any minute.
