January tried to tell herself that he hadn't been so she and Vic wouldn't have to bring up the "ex talk". But you know what? Kaden didn't qualify as an "ex". He hardly qualified at anything at this point. "We didn't date," she said slowly and meticulously. "So I hardly think that is any of your business." January finally lifted her eyes and stood up a little taller. As much as she adored Vic and his protective qualities, this was her battle to fight. And she'd do it with bare hands, whether she had to or not. "I do, however, think you should leave before I break your nose. Again." Hm? Didn't that seem like a good idea? Quote:

Speaking of Jan, did she just emerge from behind Vic and tried to take VIC's battle into her own hands? Duly noted and added to the 'we need to talk' talk later. She broke his nose, though? Heh heh heh, he loved the woman, yes he did. Not that he let anything show on his face at the moment. At the moment, he looked at her and then back at Kaden. "Your concern about the extent of our relationship is really touching, but if you were of any significance to it, you definitely would've been mentioned." Since they were all sugarcoating their words. Well, all except the fiery red head right there. This was a problem Kaden had been finding himself in very often lately, which was weird. And perhaps a coincidence. He'd do something on impulse and about halfway through he'd realize that it was a very, very stupid thing to do. By then, though, he couldn't just back out. So he had to take control of the situation and get out of it with his dignity still intact. It was tough, but he was up to the challenge.
He sipped his coffee casually and listened to the two of them, trying to hide the fact that Jan's threat and Vic's jab about him not being of any significance did sort of get to him.
More casual sipping. Until his coffee was gone. At least thirty seconds.
Kade set the cup down, cleaned it magically, then put it away all before turning to the people he was talking to again. "I'd rather keep my nose this way, thanks," he said, his eyes on January. "The slightly crooked look to it gives off just the right amount of bad boy. Another break would give off idiot, which I don't think I need help with." And no, he wasn't being hard on himself. Being an idiot was part of his charm.
And now to Vic. "Perhaps I haven't been mentioned yet," He said, his tone and expression cold and matter-of-fact, "because I was, in fact, very significant and she doesn't know how to broach the subject. I don't know. You could ask her."
He took a step back and held up his hands in a gesture of surrender. He was leaving. "I'll see you around, January. Probably. And I'd rather not see you, Vic, though it was nice to meet you." Kaden gave a friendly smile and a wave. "Enjoy your day. I've got to get back to work."
And he was outta there.
