Emily lowered her food, resting it in her lap, the paper keeping it from spilling crumbs over her. The burning question on her lips was 'what's it to you?' ... but she could already think of a smart mouth response or two he might have used. "If I told you it's the first I've had since breakfast with you, would you believe me?" she asked, avoiding the fact that she had the one Zeke made her before she had breakfast with him. She wasn't lying, just omitting and it was such a minor detail.
Shrugging it off, Emily took up her food again and took a generous bite of it, chewing deliberately as she observed Gavin's response. Yes, an explosive art, he was right not to question it... and as for the Minister. Pffttt. "I'm sure Albert could appreciate my initiative in getting this ordeal over and done with," she gestured to the room they were in, as if it was argument enough, which it was. "But feel free to run the idea by him. I could have a team ready to reclaim the building within an hour." MLE had more than enough fire power, let alone the other departments. If they all pitched in, perimetres would be set, concealment charms in place, muggle repelling charms in place, obliviators on stand by and everything ready to blow in a matter of minutes. It'd be like clockwork. Such a beautiful vision...
...
Oh right, tones. That was less than appealing. Emily shook her head, conveying her disappointment in the matter. "Such a saint," she agreed, humouring him with the halo he clearly stole from her. Telling the man what he wanted to hear didn't sound much like a resolution to the issue, more just a prolonging of future grievances, something she would have put a stop to in a more immediate way. "Sometimes I think you're too nice for your own good." She would have asked who had taken the tone with him, but she could narrow it down to a few Heads at least. Aron was out of the question, Gidyun seemed too passive for it, there was Cale and Ashby... but she didn't have a clue which. It mattered not. Wasn't her business, unless things got heated, then she might intervene - simply to ensure staff security wasn't compromised. Gavin could look after himself. "On a lighter note," she started, taking up her coffee and figetting with the lid on it, "date night next weekend... and it's my turn to plan, so, can you check with Ari if she minds hosting Zeke for the night?" Common courtesy in asking and all, wouldn't want anything derailing her plans, it'd be inconvenient to say the least.
Emily was on a roll with taking her time today. It was perfectly in line with just how slow his day was going. He took another bite, still watching and waiting for a response. Was it really something she had to give that much thought to? Couldn't have been that many--no...no actually it could. Gavin considered her question a moment. "The proper thing to do would be believing you and assuming you wouldn't lie." It didn't actually answer the question, just like she never did. Taking a page from her ambiguous book. Sure he should have been inclined to believe her but there was no doubt she knew her way around loopholes and the like. For all he knew it could have been a half truth so he'd leave himself half believing.
Initiative she called it. He had a few other words that could have replaced that one but it wasn't likely she'd accept any one of them or the advice that would accompany them so yes, initiative that the Minister would appreciate. At her gesture he glanced around the room, it was depressing in itself and again added more appeal to the blasting and exploding Emily had in mind. He couldn't work like this and not with something--Merlin knows what--making noises ever so often. "Uh-huh......" Within an hour too. She was clearly well prepared and most definitely up to the second with this idea. "I'll...relay that message. He'd be impressed by your efficiency, if not appalled by your tact." Now he was wondering what Aron's take on the situation was. Had Emily already gotten to him with the idea as well?
Too nice for his own good? Huh. He'd never actually looked at it that way before and not in the context of it being nice. An odd thought it was. Gavin shruged, his indifference coming out in the motion. "It's more for myself than for Mr. Summers. Prolonging the conversation would mean him staying longer." For someone that didn't like the company of others it would have been bothersome. "Besides, you have to leave them thinking things are fine, can't have him suspecting anything." It would put a bit of a damper on what he had planned if Ashby went ahead and put up extra security down in his level--which reminded him. "Out of curiosity, did Mr. Summers request any Security Personnel Coverage from your Department? You have anyone patrolling down there?" That could have posed a problem too when he thought about it.
Gavin liked the sound of lighter notes, they promised she wouldn't really questioning his security question. And she wasn't lying about it being a lighter note either. Date night. "Ari was planning to take the girls to the movies then out for junk food. Don't think any of them will mind him tagging along." He could already see Avery grinning at the idea in the event she got better before then and not worse. It could go either way when it came to that little girl. "So," His corners of his lips twitched up inot a smile, "gonna tell me what you've got planned?"
