"But this one contained my birthday present, and a letter from my-" His voice dropped slightly, and became a little more distant. "Dad." As soon as he said it though, he realised it felt better than expected. He'd got a letter from his Dad. He'd never been able to say that before at Hogwarts. And whilst he knew that reading it wouldn't be easy, it also gave him a sense of pride. His Dad had written a letter to him to be opened when he came of age, whether he himself was around to witness it or not.
And with another emotional hurdle surrounding the letter overcome, Benjy gave Brynn his full attention. "Permanently destroy?" Benjy tilted his head thoughtfully. "What sort of thing? Large or small? I mean, Incendio or some other sort of fire comes to mind...but Truebridge probably wouldn't appreciate something piano-sized ablaze in the castle." He tapped his lips thoughtfully. "Otherwise, we could send it off with a bang, attach it to a firework sort of thing..." Explosions were more Lex's thing, but he could still do a decent job. Did either of those appeal to her? He could always try to come up with something more radical.
He scratched the nape of his neck, and shook his head lightly. "Yeah. We should just be glad it's not Peeves, I guess." Brynn looked up at Benjy as he talked about his family, nodding in agreement, though her thoughts seemed to be distant. She didn't have a large family to speak of and those she did have seemed to keep their distance for one reason or another. "Oh, that's nice," she said, giving the older boy a small smile. "I mostly just get from my mom, but she sends me goodies sometimes too." Those were the best kinds of packages, she had to agree, though she probably didn't get those as much as she'd like. "Oh, is it your birthday?" she started with a grin which soon faded away as she noticed his hesitation. "Are you alright, Benjy?" she asked, a hint of concern on her face. Normally that would be a good thing, right? But she would have reasons for being a little off when the topic of fathers came up, maybe he did too. But she hoped she wasn't prying too much. "Oh.. um.. yes," she admitted, feeling somewhat awkward about the reasoning behind her want for a spell. But she had asked for help and he seemed willing to offer it. The first year tilted her head and eyed him carefully as she thought over his suggestions, slowly smiling as he continued. "It's small.. a parchment, actually. And, I've tried Incendio, but.. I keep finding it again." Weird, really. She didn't know if it was the same one regenerating or a new one in its place. There had to be something better.
She shrugged lightly as she cast her eyes near the window again. Whatever was once there didn't seem to be making a return appearance. "Peeves?" She glanced back at Benjy curiously. She had heard that name before but had yet to see him so sort of though he was made up.
