If it weren't for her during the summer he would have STARVED.

Ew, Durmstrangers. Beverly wrinkled her nose a little at that. She knew a few; her cousins, barbarians they were. Woah! Wait. It HAD been true? Dementors at Hogwarts and all. Great, she owed her dad an apology now.

"By what I've heard, you can't really say that," she said, but it was nice of him to assure her nothing like Dementors would happen again. She preferred to stay on the realistic side of things. Wishing and denying hardcore facts was a waste of time, something she learned from her dad. "I hope we're ready if it does, though," she mused. The DADA professor BETTER teach them something useful or Bev would be using her as a human shield.

His laugh was contagious, she couldn't help but join in. And the story behind the punch was cute, she may have let out a small 'aww.' "She sounds brave, your mum." She would have paid a galleon to see that. Bev was all about girl power.

Another potions family. They seemed common. How many potions did the world need? "Yeah, my grandmother is the head of Jones Enterprises." His had a fancier name, though. Maybe it was because all she heard was Jones this, Jones that. Gah. "But my dad and his other two brothers each manage three different branches." The Newell twins? How could she not? Especially the boy, he got PUNCHED. So she nodded in response.

She bit her lip in thought. "My dad wants what's best for me. " She shrugged. "It's complicated." She was sure Train Boy didn't want to hear all about her family's 'traditions' or customs when it came to the business.

Oh. She was familiar with that look. Not on him, but she's seen it before on others. The look of doing something he shouldn't but still doing it. "How did you ever learn? Do tell." Her interest piqued. If he could do it, then she could, yeah? Kennedy wouldn't mind... Hmm.

She smiled. "If you are, you don't seem like it." Nervous that is. He looked extremely happy about it. "You'll do great, although..." Should she say it? Nah... Well... "... Don't get too sad when Slytherin wins." Shy, yeah. Competitive, hell yeah! Heh.

He wanted to see her do a backflip? First time she's been told that. "It's not that impressive," she said, shaking her head, grinning. But maybe one day.

Oh Merlin. He noticed, didn't he? Beverly tucked her hair behind her ear and cast her eyes down. That was...embarrassing. It made it worse that her face felt warmer. Well crud.

And she looked very proud of that fact too. "That's what family is all about, isn't it? Looking after each other." Even though he hadn't had any siblings until now, he always looked out for his cousins and Zahra because he considered her family as well and they in return had his back.

Michael managed to throw her a sheepish look. She obviously wasn't one to have things sugar coated or give false hope to. "Sorry. I guess I was doing that Gryffindor thing where I was trying to save you from the horrors at that sometimes happen here." But that wasn't fair to her, he realised because then she wouldn't be prepared for stuff. Just as she pointed that out. "I hope so too." So DADA lessons needed to pick up a lot.

The comment about his mother being brave almost made Michael burst out laughing. "That's not a word I would use to describe her." He paused while trying to think of a word but really couldn't come up with just one word to describe her. "She loves the fight. I mean she just could have told the guy to be careful or whatever but she never gave him the chance to apologise, she just punched him." Something his father was trying very hard to get her to stop doing it. "Dad says one of these days someone is going to hit back." He chuckled a little, but if that happened then that person would have to deal with both him and his father.

He had not heard of Jones Enterprises before but that didn't mean anything because he kind of zoned out when it came to the Potion business. It's not that he wasn't proud of what his dad had achieved but he just wasn't into potions. "Complicated huh? Yeah I hear that from my parents often. Is your family mainly purebloods?"

Oh that was an easy question. "My mum and grandfather taught me. Don't worry I don't drive on the roads or anything." Well not on busy roads anyway. "Just mainly out in paddocks. Although you gotta be careful of the cows." Hehe.

He BEAMED again at her encouragement before bursting into laughter at what she said after that. She may have whispered it, but he had heard. "Look at you, getting your house pride on." He continued to chuckle before adding. "You snakes have got no chance now that I'm on the team." He poked his tongue out at her. He was only kidding.

"Let me be the judge of that." Not that he was any sort of expert, mind you.

Seeing the blush get deeper, Michael gave her a nudge with his shoulder and simply grinned.
