The boy spotted the Professor and just gave him a short look. Tag didn't know the man, wasn't he from somewhere else? Therefore he got no greeting from Tag because he didn't know if this man was a good person or not. None of that 'good afternoon professor' silliness when he didn't even know the Professor.
