Gwen let out an audible sigh of relief when an older girl wanted to be partners. She smiled brightly.
"Great!" What she wanted to say was
"Thank you so much for saving me from complete embarrassment. I'm really glad someone wants to partner with me." But that might be more publicly embarrassing than not having a partner at all.
"I'm Gwen. It's nice to meet you." See? Americans had manners. Some of them. Okay, Gwen had manners and she was American. Maybe she shouldn't generalize with a whole nation.
She glanced around at all of the other students. Most seemed to be in groups now, so they would be moving on soon probably.
"Do you think she wants us in groups to take pictures of each other?" she asked aloud. The question was mostly to herself, but she wouldn't mind if someone who knew what was going on answered it.
