But as Mordred himself closed the distance between them two, she was convinced it was not her imagination. Just look at those eyes! They were too real. Sophie was trying to control her breathing, but what was going ON?? The girl slowly raised her wand-hand, but only to put it away. She still couldn't take her eyes off his, and when her right hand was free, she reached out and... touched his arm.
....
Hm. Yeah, he was real. She let go of his arm and wanted to take a step back, but she couldn't move! Sophie really wanted to hate all this, but... she didn't at all. She was still very confused.
...
Another few seconds went by before she finally found her voice. It was almost a whisper, but at least it was something. "....Where've you been?" She asked. A mixture of confusion and sadness could probably have been heard in her tone. Sophie blinked as she kept looking into his eyes, wondering why on earth he looked so... so... upset? Nervous? Sad? What did that expression mean? The look on his face made Sophie even more confused.
“Speak up, Mordaunt! TALK!” Mordred berated himself harshly this time, and kept his calm face as his mask. He had been through a lot the past two years, and all he wanted was his friends from Hogwarts…and the young woman whom he left behind without an explanation.
“Merlin, why am I even here? Why am I doing this to Sophie?” He knew right then and there that he was hurting her by revealing himself. Mordred didn’t change. He was still selfish.
Even in close proximity, he saw the subtle movement of her arm—she drew back her wand. Turns out that he will not be turned into something cute and fuzzy after all. What happened next, Mordred wasn’t prepared for it. Did she just touch his arm? It didn’t last long, and she let go.
“DON’T!” Mordred bit his lip and stared at her. He can see the questions building up inside her. Why…how…why did you…how could you… He simply can’t take it anymore.
“SPEAK UP!”
Mordred bit his lip harder when he heard Sophie speak. It has been two years since he last heard her voice, and he can’t believe that he felt a different kind of pain swell up inside his chest. Her question, albeit just one, felt like a thousand questions pelted at him one after another. Mordred took another step, pulled her, and hugged the woman he missed the most.
“I’m sorry…so…sorry, Sophie.”
