I know that tossing coins isn't a felony, I know that much so it's fine." Unless they were charmed coins.
... hmm. Did the man just look a bit shifty to January now, too? Vic kept this polite look on his face but he didn't stop his trained mind from racing through the worst of possibilities. Maybe he should get a squad to search the fountain once he was back.
"Ludovicus Bones." He didn't want January to share her name with the man before they were sure he was an employee in the ministry and not some rogue... or a foreigner with mystical quest. So he spoke quickly before she had a chance to speak up and share any more information. Hopefully she wouldn't take that as an oppressing move, it was all for her safety.
Anyway. "We're employees here, we were heading to work. Would you like to join us?" Trick question right there. Quote:

He sort of reminded her of her department head that she had met at the Orientation. That sounded like something she would say while munching on carrots and hummus. "Interesting," she remarked. "So... basically, you think that because people believe in this sort of thing and they expect something good to happen... it will?" It seemed a bit far-fetched for her Ravenclaw brain, but if he wanted to believe in luck she wasn't going to stop him.
Vic beat her to introductions, so she waited until he finished to do her own. "I'm January Pennifold. Level Four." She smiled kindly at the man before realizing that her arm was still linked with Vic's. Did that look weird? They weren't together. Like... together together, he was just going to show her around. Erm... oh well. She didn't need to explain. January kept her arm where it was.
She was almost perplexed at Jasper's question. Well, not so much the question as his tone. He sounded like he felt sorry for her or something. January shrugged her shoulders lightly. "No, not even then." She supposed she just didn't believe in that sort of thing. It never really crossed her mind, either, that she should toss a coin into every fountain she passed.
Oh, yes, they were going to work. See, this is why she came early. Just in case she got talking to someone. January was unaware of Vic's thought processes and assumed he was just being friendly. "Yeah, we're heading up. Where are you off to?"
"You know, I would. I could do for a bit of company before I begin my shift." It would be mostly solitary work and for the most part, Jasper spent the larger half of his days on his own. Not so much as a goldfish as per the lease on his Hackney apartment.
"It's nice to meet you, Ludovicus Bones." He said to the wizard who had said his name so quickly that it gave Jasper the distinct impression that he too wanted to get on with introductions to make way for interesting conversation. "Funny that. You share a name with that of the prosec..." How embarrassing. How utterly, completely and humiliatingly embarrassing that he just now realized to whom he was speaking. The older wizard's mouth hung open for a minute as he struggled to find a word that would fit inside of it. Nothing. Not even, Nice job! or Go Get 'em, Tiger! leapt to the forefront ridiculous as they would've sounded just then.
Bones could've been a celebrity within the magical community for all Jasper knew. What was important to the salt 'n peppered Unspeakable was that he, Bones, was seeing to justice for de Talone's victims. That witch was very scary to Jasper. But not for her abilities so much as for her will. What wouldn't she do? It was an unknown and that made her frightening.
Ah, the witch spoke. His mouth softly shut and he addressed Miss Pennifold's question absent an argumentative tone. Rather he felt more forthcoming and pleased to be forthcoming. One never gets to the heart of a debate with dodginess, right? "Yes, I do and it's nice to meet you as well, Miss January Pennifold." Who was obviously with Ludovicus Bones judging by the way their arms remained linked since he'd laid eyes on them, yes? "And do you mean that you don't believe such things can occur?" He asked the red-head with genuine interest. "I'm heading to level 9, by the way."
