"I don't fancy waking up to finding my shoes gone. Or my hair." It had taken a long time to grow out, you know.
Back to the man at the fountain. She was the wrong person to ask, since it was her first day. She didn't know if this fountain was one people often tossed coins into. She didn't. "I don't know," she replied to Vic and the other man. "I don't." Just in case he was wondering. She didn't believe in that kind of superstition of fountains and wishing wells and things of the like. "Stories? Oh, no they're not stories. Well, I mean they are, but only the motivational half. See, what I think is really happening is people are witnessing the power of positive thought." Jasper just loved talking metaphysical. He really had no idea that he was talking to the hard-boiled Ludovicus Bones. The hopeful smile he wore seemed to imply that very lack of knowledge as he planned to discuss thoughts, the powers of the mind, and where we go after we die as much as he would be allowed.
"I'm Jasper, by the way. Jasper Mitterbill." He said introducing himself to both the witch and the wizard and stopping short of disclosing exactly where he worked. They weren't meant to discuss it and Jasper understood why. People were often very curious, himself included and he could remember a time or six where that curiosity had landed him in harm's way. He knew consciously - and he also thought he knew subconsciously - that he would not be able to live with himself if he were ever responsible for the harm of another living being. It was important to keep hush.
"Oh?" He said in response to the ginger witch sounding a bit, well maybe it was sad for her. "Never? Not even as a young witch?" Vic, for some reason, felt responsible for the lady's safety. He held on to her arm on his, and agreed to chat on with the man tossing coins and speaking about spiritual dung matters. It seemed that Jan agreed with him, that was just a bonus to the red hair and fair look. He tried not to stare admirably at her and ignore the man. "Right. If you think so. I know that tossing coins isn't a felony, I know that much so it's fine." Unless they were charmed coins.
... hmm. Did the man just look a bit shifty to January now, too? Vic kept this polite look on his face but he didn't stop his trained mind from racing through the worst of possibilities. Maybe he should get a squad to search the fountain once he was back.
"Ludovicus Bones." He didn't want January to share her name with the man before they were sure he was an employee in the ministry and not some rogue... or a foreigner with mystical quest. So he spoke quickly before she had a chance to speak up and share any more information. Hopefully she wouldn't take that as an oppressing move, it was all for her safety.
Anyway. "We're employees here, we were heading to work. Would you like to join us?" Trick question right there. |
