Panicked gripped her for a moment and she might have looked like a trapped animal but before she could even for a thought of protest he had embraced her.
Her mind was assailed with images and feelings that spun so quickly past her minds eye it was dizzying. She had expected some insight but within boundries that hide certain things, what she was met with was no resistance into the entirety of his emotional peat bog. Everywhere she stepped, everywhere she looked and turned there was something new to see.
Some things she already knew. Some things were brand new. She focused on a few things, things she felt intuitively were important and delved deep. After what seemd like an eternity Syd tore herself out of his arms and took a few unsteady steps back. It took a lot out of her, sifting through a persons emotions. Instead of taking the position of an observer the very nature of her talent put her in the drivers seat. It was disorientating and draining.
She was shivering visibly and had no doubt lost all her color. Tears threatened to spill over but she forced those down though another physical response would not be so easily dismissed. Syd waved a hand at Jasper before quickly leaving him and weaving her way through the crowd to the loo.
She had seemed somewhat reluctant. Perhaps, it was nervousness. An understandable caution about getting too close to him again if even only an embrace. This had the effect of spurring on his want to show her affection. To reassure her as she seemed more reluctant toward doing this than he was himself. Once linked in arms though, he understood why as he felt the effects of their agreement his insistence on her body. His instinct was to cling more tightly, but could that make it more intense? Instead he reached a hand up and gave gentle stroking motions around her hair.
He looked a bit taken-aback by her sudden fling from his arms and he tried not to be hurt by it. It wasn't personal, was it? She wasn't disgusted with him? Was she? Didn't forgive him, perhaps?
He tried to read into her expression but it was nothing but pale and ...maybe it was overwhelmed? Then she had dismissed herself and she was gone. This sort of thing happened to Jasper a lot and he often found himself in the middle of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. And when he tried to do what he thought was right, it often backfired to his cost. He recoiled. Disgusted with himself and turned to leave after her. Where was Mrs. Kapoor? They were leaving!
No, wait, no. He had to find Claire first. It wouldn't do to have more than one fellow employee angry at him for suddenly seeming to disaparate. |
