You don't KNOW his intention with the lesson because YOU stormed out! You don't know if you'll ever have the chance to take Arithmancy again because YOU refused to cooperate with the professor!

"All we ask here at Hogwarts is that you TRY to follow directions and TRY to cooperate with our professors' various teaching methods. OBVIOUSLY some professors are... different... than others, and you might not like all of them. But believe it or not, they are NOT here to please you. They are here to EDUCATE you, and YOU are here to KNOW MORE when you walk outside this school than you did when you walked in."

She took a breath and planted her hand on her hip. "So now all of you have a choice. You can either march back into that Arithmancy classroom and apologize to your professor, or you can keep your beard, serve a detention with me AND Professor R. French, and drop the class. You will NOT be allowed to take Arithmancy ever again, though apparently that is not a problem for most of you seventh years who already know everything. It is your choice, all of you, so make it now."
