Don't get her wrong she was a wonderful teacher, Lex just wasn't a fan of numbers.
She turned sharply into the classroom. "Good Day Professor--hey are we painting the class today?? Are those blue cans of paint? If not can it not be yellow for just in case reasons? I learned how to change colours on stuff so it wouldn't really be a problem."
Lex stepped further in the room, gave the man a broad smile before she continued her inspecting. "Is it more like finger painting. That didn't go so well last time. There was a man eating plant and everything." Or maybe he was after Professor Lafay's job...because we're totally eyeing the cauldrons too.
Mixing paint...? No numbers or mentions of textbooks. She approved. "Ah, yes. Of course. A Gryffindor. As I would suspect. A House founded by Jeremy Gryffindor in 1828. He, too, had an affinity for finger painting. But please, paint nothing until instructions have been given." Quote:

As soon as she cleared the doorway the blonde haired Slytherin was sure that she had come to the wrong place. Was that a potion brewing? Where was Hadley? Had she missed that much over the last few years when that terrible, awful thing happened to her? Did Arithmancy finally get cool? She could get down with some potion brewing. Maybe this new professor would help make the subject not so lame anymore?
The confused sixth year finally decided that she should at the very least say hello before the man had her admitted to St. Mungo's for being crazy. "Nice to meet you professor." Should she tell him her name? Her manners were screaming at her to do so. "I'm Hannah Lockwood." That was enough information for now yes? She made her way to a desk not too close to the front, she wasn't that eager, and waited for everybody else to show up. "Yes, I suppose it is nice. N I C E. Four letters. One, two, three, four." Honestly, she didn't want to deal with numbers. Who did anyway? It always gave her a headache after solving for the corresponding 'numbers'. They always turn out wrong anyway, so she didn't know why. She did get a passing grade in this OWL during her fifth year though. It was luck. Pure luck.
Oh uhm. Hello, new Professor. Kat wished she could poke his belly.
"Hello Professor French," the Slytherin greeted with a small smile. He seemed oddly quiet for a Professor. More of the observant type of person, you know? Great, now she missed Professor Hadley in this classroom. Hmm... why were there cans of paint in the classroom? And a potion currently being brewed? Was there going to be a joint Arithmancy and Potions class? That would be awesome. Kat loved Potions. Maybe it would make up for her not-so-good skills in Arithmancy. "Oh ho! A Head Girl! A post of honor! Do you know how the post of Head Girl came about?" Quote:

He'd only just mastered Elder Futhark, after all. But Arithmancy wasn't quite like Ancient Runes... so maybe it was just a funny-ha-ha joke.
He took a seat near to the front of the room but at the side, by a window, and made to get out his quill, ink and parchment. "Hello Professor!" he said cheerfully as he did all this. "Welcome!" Or welcome back? He didn't know. "My name's Tobias Tempus."
Code for 'I either forgot YOUR name or didn't know it in the first place hi there hello hi'. "Yes, alright, hello. All right now. Tempus you say? I knew a Tempus once. A Dementor Whisperer of all things." Quote:

He went in and stopped to eye the message on the board. Okay.
Okay.
And that professor looked like Santa Claus. Did that mean he was an evil dark wizard?
West sat down near the back and stayed silent. Yeahhh close to the exit. "Yes, well done there." Quote:

Which was why she was in class early- she wanted to scout out the room and see if there was anything suspicious-looking that he was trying to hide. Unfortunately, she wasn't the first there, and he looked totally ready for class- not that there weren't weird things in the room.
What was in those cauldrons? Was it poison? What Arithmancy class needs potions? Why was there paint; what was he going to do with paint? Why did he look so pleased with himself? What had he done? Adrienne narrowed her eyes at Professor French, then gave him a civil nod and sat down right in front of the class. She was going to be keeping an eye on this guy. "The loo is just outside, I believe if you need it? Better hurry before the lesson begins." Quote:

She stepped into the room, and...well, everything looked just as she expected it to. Save for the paint and potion, which she assumed was just lesson set-up. She passed by the professor, who looked rather lounged back for someone who was about to start a class. More power to him, though. "Hi, Professor," she said. Then she noticed the way he was writing everything--sticking numbers in places where they'd make sense to go. Hmm... "Hope you're having ONE very awesome day TWO-day."
She grinned at her lame pun then took a nearby seat.
"And the same TWO you, times infinity and ONE." Quote:
