Okay, maybe Forrest wasn't so alone in the compartment.
He opened his eyes and saw a beaming girl. Ooooooh, he remembered her! She was--Sarah!--from the previous train ride.
He smiled back. Because it was only polite.
"I'm fine," he panted, but he didn't have the energy to smile any further.
"Books 'n' clothes." He was lucky his arms didn't break while he dragged it. It carried a whole year's stuff.
"That's what the Headmistress promised." He knew the girl, but he was still shy around her.
