Not for me, thank Merlin, though.” He wondered how on earth he would put up with it. Some boys in their year were followed around by girls to no end. It would drive him up the wall. “I’m not as soft as a puppy!” He shook his head and smiled, “no way. I could punch or raise my voice, if I wanted. I just... I don’t really want to...” He laughed. “I have things I’d rather be doing with my time.”
“Nothing...” He nodded slowly, still a little sceptical, but hoping Harley was being honest with him – because Harley was nice and it was nice to have a good friend - , or just having a laugh that he didn’t understand. “I don’t mind weird,” he smiled. “But I didn’t really care at that age, either. I wouldn’t have stopped my parents, but I can’t imagine having any other name.”
“Doughnuts,” he laughed, “have you been to Hogsmeade yet?” He asked, muttering about how perfectly organised the trips were, and how he was half tempted to go when he felt like it. “I’ve never even used one or really seen them,” he admitted, “I live with just my dad, and he’s a wizard, so we don’t go near that stuff.”
He smiled, starting to find some pieces of grass which others had pulled up and making them into a chain as Harley spoke. “Thankfully, they don’t. I’m not ‘hot’ enough,” he grinned. “And I am?” The idea was strange to him... He’d never considered it before. “I guess not, but I’m not going to take anything to harm my body like that.”
“Oh, I forget that you guys don’t have those sports…” Harland grinned sheepishly, nodding.
“Muggle sport. My Mam’s a muggleborn, my Dad’s a half blood, so I’m… Well, I got brought up around muggle things. Mam doesn’t want me to grow up ignorant to my muggle heritage.” He was glad, too, because muggle stuff was really cool. Like his computer! But he didn’t really think of it as muggle stuff, it was just… A computer.
“Girls never went for me, either. Once again, their loss, I’m totally hot.” He winked, motioning to himself as he laughed.
“And I don’t even have to try!” He grinned.
“You are as soft as a puppy!” He nodded, moving so he was kneeling on the grass.
“I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. It’s nice to have a conversation with someone who isn’t going to punch me. Heck, if I managed to sniff you without being punched, you are soft.” Definitely wasn’t a bad thing, though.
Ack, and now Harrison seemed sceptical or something. Not happy, anyway. Would he get annoyed if he then found out that ‘Harley’ wasn’t his real name? Well, he didn’t have to tell him his name, just that it was a shortened name.
“Harley’s short for my real name.” He said quickly. There we go.
“Nah, Harrison is an awesome name! It’s like… I can’t describe it, but I think it’s cool!”
Harland shook his head.
“Haven’t been to Hogsmeade yet. Maybe sometime soon-ish, though. Whenever the next trip is.” He was actually looking forward to going to Hogsmeade, everyone went on about it as if it was the best thing ever. He also wanted to try wizard sweets, he usually only got muggle sweets at home. His parents didn’t like to get him many wizard sweets for fear of the effects they’d have on him.
“I would think you’re not jealous of those who are followed around, though, right? Too… Conforming for you.” He smirked, watching Harrison’s hands work on the grass chain. He never had the patience for those, they just annoyed him and he ended up ripping them.
“You are. And good, because I don’t think I would ever forgive you!”
