Hogwarts RPG Name: Eliza Neladara Dawnsel Fifth Year | CoMC HW1 - Post 5 All right, so she had one jar left and she'd been pretty darn successful so far, so she decided to try something a little different. She stood from her chair and began calling out numbers. "Ashwinder Eggs - One jar, starting at 15 sickles! Can I get 15 sickles? 15, ladies and gentlemen!" She saw a few heads turn her way, but no one looked like they understood. Has no one here been to an auction? Puzzled, she tried again. "One full jar of Ashwinder eggs - freshly harvested! Starting at 15 sickles! Do I hear an offer?" she called out again with one hand on her hip, the other in the air waving people closer. They were finally starting to get the message. A man with a feather in his cap came closer and flicked his fingers in the air once. "I'll bid 15, Miss."
She nodded at him and smiled. This might work! "Thank you sir. Can anyone beat 15 sickles? 15 sickles is a steal, folks, you don't want to miss out!" All of the excitement of Hogsmeade must have put her into a wildly social mood somehow. Or maybe it was just the experiment of getting regular shoppers to join an impromptu auction. Who knew. A woman with a large broach stood near to the man and called out, "One galleon!"
She nodded at her and moved on. "One galleon, one galleon, can I get one galleon and ten sickles? One galleon and ten sickles?" This was sort of more fun than she'd thought it would be. An old man with a monocle came by and threw his bid inot the mix. "One galleon, ten sickles, right here," he said calmly with a twist of his mustache.
Things were really picking up now. "Do I hear two galleons, two galleons for this large and very full jar of Ashwinder eggs? Quite the bargain still, at only twoooo galleons!" She held her final jar in her hands to show the crowd. The woman with the broach waved a gloved hand to take that bid.
Eliza nodded at her and said, "Do I see two galleons and ten sickles?" She looked to each of their faces pointedly. Come on.... The man with the feather tipped his cap to place his bid. Excellent, she thought and carried on. "All right then lady and gentlemen, do I hear three galleons? Three for this final jar?" She was hopeful, but felt comfortable with the price she'd earned thus far. Monocle man flipped his hand up once again and said, "I'll pay four galleons, Miss." Four?! Well he jumped right ahead then didn't he? Really must be needing some eggs. "Four it is then, do I hear any higher?" She looked at the other two again, but they did not stir. It was clear this man meant to buy the eggs. The man with the cap smiled at her and shook his head, gave a low wave, and went on his way. The woman with the nice broach shook her head and said, "No dear, but thank you for the fun!" And then she too, left.
She turned back to the man with the monocle and mustache to congratulate him. "Soooold, to this fine gentlemen right here! Four galleons!" She came from around the table and handed him the jar. He placed the coins firmly into her open palm, tucked the jar under his arm and said, "Thank you very much Miss. Now if you would, please stop shouting near my shop! I admire your gusto, surely, but it does make it very difficult to get any work done." He gave her a small smile and a pat on the hand to show he didn't mean to be too insulting, and then he turned quickly and re-entered a shop down the way. "Thank you sir," she said as she received the payment. Blushing about all the yelling she'd been doing, she bowed her head and apologized. "Sorry, sir," was all she could manage. It had been her assignment after all, but she knew their group was being rather boisterous. She watched him go and went back to her table. Well, at least I sold them all, eventually. She pulled her sign off the table and sat patiently until it was time to follow the professor back to the school.
