She did know how he felt about saying "I love you" in public - and for the most part, she agreed, because really, some people did run those words into the ground by saying it constantly instead of just showing it more often than saying it and could be really obnoxious and mushy about it, and she didn't want to be one of those people. But it was fine occasionally, and this was one of those occasions. It had mostly slipped out, but she hadn't said it yet today since right now was her first time seeing him, and there weren't many people around the courtyard at the moment either. So she didn't feel bad about saying or that he didn't say it back. Didn't need to be said every time. She knew.
He was smiling now anyway. Soooo, moving on.
Her hands returned to her lap, but the smile was still on her face. "So. Enjoying the day?" And now he felt bad. Jeez. It wasn't that he didn't WANT to say it back, it was just that...yeah. Um, yeah it was awkward for reasons. SO he opted for just thinking it in his head and she would have to just trust him on feelings and stuff. Eight letters, three syllables... yeah? Yeah.
When she moved her hand over to her lap, Ascanius automatically moved his hand there and grabbed hers. It got a quick squeeze and his eyes stayed on their hands.
"I am... and you?" Hopefully yeah, yeah?
