Post 1 - Removing shell Pt. 1 Still standing well out of the way so the first years could catch the pods, wand at the ready, Eliza counted the last pod to be dropped. So, she hadn't been quick enough to cast the spell herself, but she'd still enjoyed watching anyway. And watching West climb up a ladder was somewhat amusing for her and she couldn't quite place why. Once he climbed down and Bentley explained the next activity, Eliza picked up her stool and moved it back in by the workstation.
As she sat on the stool, she wondered why they didn't cast stabilizing spells on everything even remotely precarious. She could just picture it now: Herself, sitting down, tipping the stool, flailing, falling, catastrophe -in front of everyone. Gulp Luckily though, today was not that day. She safely and steadily pulled on her dragonhide gloves and picked up the enormous pod in front of her. Really though, why are they so big? Quaffle sized pods? Yeesh! Her mind went to the great rain forests and ancient forests that used to be and wondered how big those trees were able to grow. I bet they're even more enormous. Which means the bugs and snakes and everything are probably more enormous too. The thought made her shudder. She didn't necessarily have anything against those animals, she just...didn't want to run into them expectantly anytime soon.
Bringing her mind back to the task however, she gripped the pod firmly and tried to wedge a gloved finger into the opening where the shell had cracked in the middle, and pulled. A low creaaaak emitted from the pod, but the resilience of these things was more than she'd anticipated. She tugged it again and the top portion of that section snapped off in her hand, leaving behind a dry and jagged edge that she now had to grip and try again. Goodness gracious, how do people harvest these all day? She certainly was not cut out to be a pod harvester, but she sighed and carried on.
