Elinor appreciated Nigel's reassuring smile, and held her breath as she waited for someone to answer the door, silently hoping it would be her father, rather than her mother. It wasn't until she saw Chester on the other side that she remembered that her mother was above answering doors.
Wait. Chester was still here?
Elinor suddenly felt a lot better for some reason. Chester had aged quite a bit since she had seen him last, but she still saw him in her minds eye with a nice crown of snowy-white hair. He was always her best friend as a child.
"Hello, Chester," she greeted warmly, nodding back to his bow and 'good afternoon'. She followed behind Chester, trying to not cast another glance back at Nigel.
When they reached the sitting room, and the servant stepped aside, Elinor somehow felt a little better. There they were. Mom and dad. Just... waiting. This was suddenly a lot less scary. She noticed that her mother was sitting in one armchair, and her father was standing by the other. She was relieved that they had left the sofa for them to sit.
Elinor could do nothing but smile a little. Was 'hello' the right thing to say? Eh. It felt weird. But she did, technically, have to introduce Nigel, right? Right.
"Nigel," she started after a shaky breath, "This is my mother, Alyssa, and my dad, Charles. This is Nigel Garrettson," she then introduced to her parents. Right? Isn't that how it goes? That sofa was starting to look really nice.
