She herself was dressed in denim overalls, her hair charmed into a bob, and exaggerated freckles smudging her cheekbones and nose, along with a streak of dirt. Perhaps no one here would recognize that the President of the Board of Governors was dressed as Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird, or would appreciate the rather elegant woman dressed so grubbily, but it was a VERY good book and she wanted to pay homage.
When the table cleared, Cassandra stepped forward to drop their book contributions into the pile - one for her, one for Mo, and six more for good measure. All were Defense reference books from her personal library, although not necessarily the most recent edition. "Grab a paddle, Mo, and we'll go find seats for the auction."
Mo's mother was under the mistaken impression that he was dressed as Peter Pan. It was probably because he was wearing a three-piece suit in emerald green that matched his green hair. But he wasn't wearing tights, or a feathered cap, so Mo was clearly not Peter Pan. Plus the fact that he was carrying around a watermelon was a dead giveaway, right?
A paddle? Could he take any number? He studied the paddles on the table before picking up Number 3. Symbolic, y'know?
"Right. Will you carry my watermelon a bit, please?" He offered the fruit to his mother, but she simply ruffled his green hair and headed for the seats. "Helllllllo Mrs. Branxton, and Marcus," Amelia Annie Earhart Truebridge greeted the Board President, who had her son in tow. "Lovely costumes, you two." She logged their donations - more books, hurrah! - and moved on to the next person. Gotta keep the line moving. Quote:

"Yes, well, we wouldn't miss it, would we?" he asked, turning to cast a glance at both his wife and daughter. He handed her the check and passed his own smirk as she glanced at it. What... what?! What was that look for? "I'd hope not," the redhead gave the man a perfect smile, a sharp contrast to the coolness of her tone. Yes he was watching her just as much as she was watching him.... mhmm... she could see what Cassandra didn't like the Ministry... Quote:

She turned to the Headmistress and smiled. We wouldn't miss it... "Of course we wouldn't..." Because it was mandatory for her to go... Ian took the headmistress' hand and she kissed it. "Very happy to be here... but now I'm off to the platform." He told her and winked. "Try not to miss me." This was why. Amoroso, was why. "Do take your time auctioning things off," Annie nearly snapped at the Secretary. She wrenched her hand away from him and buried her red face amongst a pile of books.
The NERVE of that man... JUST BECAUSE his name meant 'love' or some gunk, he thought he was Cupid himself... hmmph! He most certainly was NOT! Quote:

"Sierra?" he said, calling for his daughter to follow along. With that, the family of three disappeared into the crowd. "You and yours too," she muttered distractedly toward the Minister as she busied herself with stacking and restacking some tomes. Quote:

Then submitted her donation of two herbology books as her entry fee. Smiling partly because she was euphoric, and partly because there were press people in the vicinity, she then made her way over to the seating area. "Hello Seren, I love your costume!" Annie tried to cheer herself up by greeting the Herbology professor when she came through. See, she wasn't the only one wearing pants. The Board President was wearing overalls, for Merlin's sake.
Annie heard the auction starting then and craned her ears to try to see how much her shoes were going for. She loved the things but they just reminded her too much of Marcus. So they had to go.
She'd just stay out here and say hi to a few more people before going in herself.
