It was his own standard for himself, not something he imposed on others. He watched her open it, unconsciously holding his breath. Going only from his Grandmother’s sense of beautiful things, he had no clue if other girls closer to his age would regard things the same way…
But Vivi picked up the bracelet and said it was very pretty. There was this obvious relief that crossed his face, an almost visible lifting of the weight off his shoulders ”Y-you like it?” he murmured, because he knew it would just suck if she thought it was too hideous for her to wear it, defeats the purpose of what its main function was, which wasn’t just aesthetic "I had help making this, so its not just me, if that’s what you meant by Clever Ravenclaw… ” his Uncle was crucial to this, as with the dreamcatcher necklace. Vickers may be good with spells, but he’s not that good yet ”Its not just a bracelet Viv…” he started, lowering his voice just a tad bit more , as the next words was only meant for her to hear ”… it’s a modified wand, just crafted in a way that it looks like a bracelet. Just wear it and wave your arm or hand in the necessary wand stroke and the spell will work just as it would if it was cast by a regular wand.” Sounds simple enough to remember how to work it doesn’t it? But before she thinks its too good to be true ”Its not meant to be a wand replacement though, since it can only do a few basic things—shield spells and stunning spells, and retrieving spells like Accio. I thought with your intentions as a future Auror if you find yourself in a situation where you don’t have your wand in your hand you’ll at least have this to get it back or escape.” Kinda like a backup wand hidden in plain sight.
Having presented his gift he fell silent. Was that all he has to say to her? Well according to her letter he shouldn’t even be talking to her at all given how she felt bad for him and about him. ”Th-Thanks for hearing me out Vivi…” he finally managed to mumble out. There was more he wanted to say, but he remembers that letter now burned into his memory. Maybe rushing forward earlier wasn’t really a good idea, maybe he should’ve just owled that gift so that she wouldn’t have to see him today, in respect of her wishes ... After all, what kind of friend—or ex-friend-- was he if he couldn’t be considerate with how she felt…
Struggle. ”Vivi…. about that letter.” yeah he just couldn’t help himself … She hadn't meant it to sound critical, the fact that she didn't really wrap gifts herself didn't mean that other people shouldn't. It meant more that she was impressed by him. Always. "Of course I like it, you dummy," Vivi scowled playfully at him as she fitted the bracelet onto her wrist. It was rather more elaborate than anything else she owned, but it would work. One of those statement pieces that people just started to believe you never took off.
And she'd never take it off. Obviously.
"You made me a wand that looks like a bracelet, and not just any bracelet, but a very pretty one?" The chin wibble might have returned. Vivi examined it closely, willing herself not to whip it off and try to see what charms were on it to make it work so. That was one of those surefire ways to make a magical object go berserk or stop being magical. Instead, she rolled it over so that the intricate part lay against the hollow of her wrist, pointed the heart of her palm at him and said, "Peu, peu, peu. Spiderman!" with a small half smile.
No, but seriously... "Thank you for the gift. It's perfect. It's... well, who knows? You might save my life, right?" That was the idea with a gift like this... you didn't need it and then one day you did. She waited for him to leave, although she didn't qualify what had just occurred as 'hearing him out' at all. He hadn't said anything. Was there really even anything to say? She'd essentially cut all ties with him without even asking what he wanted. It was bossy and unfair of her, but she'd done it.
She started to add something sappy like, "I'll think of you every time I wear it," but was thankfully stopped right at, "I'll..." when he finally spoke up again. It was her first instinct to act like she didn't know what letter he meant, especially if it meant they could move on and pretend she'd never been so stupid. But that sort of denied Vick the ability to respond to it, to respond to her. Vivi just tilted her head and shrugged.
"I wasn't sure you wanted to talk about it."
