Perfect. "We can transfigure the sleeping bags, or use them as extra blankets for those who get cold. Plus, I don't see why we don't just get all the tablecloths and use those," Vivi said in a low tone to Max when he returned from some initial candy bar distribution.
Erm... Hufflepuff invasion. Vivi waved her hand dismissively at the girl, indicating she should go back where she came from. No, thanks. All good here.
Or... wait. Did she know Max?
And then there was Louisa, dragging Vickers along into the suddenly expanding duo trio. Weren't they one big happy... group of five now? Totally bogarding her idea, too, and probably going to try to take credit for it.
Vivi settled back on her elbows and smiled at the newest members of their planning crew. "Hi. You're welcome to help... we need to gather supplies and make sure everyone has enough blankets to keep warm. I think we ought to make one big tent... we don't really have very many blankets and that's the best use of our resources."
Plus that was the only way the prefects could keep watch over the others, right?
"Hey," Vivi waved to the Hufflepuff and gave Max a sort of affirmative nod. That was plenty friendly, right? Because it was about all she could manage, since she suddenly felt very very much like the unwanted third fifth wheel in this little happy fest. Perhaps she ought to remove herself so they didn't feel awkward. Or so she didn't. So there was less awkward.
"I'm... going to go see about those tablecloths." She popped to her feet and scurried off for the linen cupboard. Surely there was a linen cupboard. Maybe she'd close herself inside and live there. Max caught a motion out of the corner of his eye - had Vivi really shooed at Em as if she wasn't welcome? Max furrowed his eyebrows slightly but said nothing on the matter. Vivi found out who Em was soon enough, and Em didn't seem too bothered by Vivi's demeanor.
But... he couldn't say the same for Vivi's tolerance of the situation. When his housemate suddenly took off to 'see about those tablecloths,' she wasn't fooling Max one bit. That was the bad thing about hanging around Max too much: he picked up on one's gestures, facial expressions, and tones of voice quite easily. As Vivi departed, Max frowned at the girl's back, saddened that his new relationship had made her uncomfortable in some way, and turned to an inquiring Em. Text Cut: Em Quote:

Though, it wasn't the first time she had fallen in front of Vickers, and at least this time she hadn't fallen at his feet. As Max began to introduce her, she subtlety reached for his hand and squeezed it tightly. Her stomach churned and redness crept into her face when he began trying to tell them that they were together. Er, “Hey, Genevieve, Louisa, Vickers” she said smiling at each of the them.
When the blonde girl suddenly hopped up and ran off looking for tablecloths or something, Em shifted a bit uncomfortably. “She didn't go because of me did she?” she asked, quietly. “I didn't mean to interrupt or anything.” she said confused about what ever they were talking about.
In a barely audible whisper, Max neared Emmaleigh so that he was talking right into her ear and spoke, "I think she feels left out." He pulled away slightly to give his girlfriend a sad, tired expression, but added quietly from the new distance, "It's not you, though. It's just... us." He used his eyes to direct her to Louisa and Vickers sitting a few feet away. "I'm sure she's not happy that she's now the only one of us four without... someone." So far in the term, Vivi had never been weird around Max; he was someone she could confide in for random chats without worry. He still wanted her to feel that way, of course, but in social situations such as the one they were in...
...it stunk.
And of course Vivi had every right to react the way she did. He would have done the same thing.
He had done the same thing before on many occasions, in fact, and for some reason, it felt worse to be on the 'in a relationship' side of it. He felt bad. Vivi, come back, he said with his eyes in the girl's direction, even though her back was to him. Text Cut: Louisa Quote:

"You guys look so cute in your tomato faces!" She HAD to laugh at that. True couples blushed at the same time, Louisa didn't blush easily so her rhythm with Vickers was a bit off. "Congratulations. I'm happy for you." She wanted to point out how cool it was for all the seventh years around here to have found someone in their very last year to click with... but seeing that Vivi, a seventh year who didn't click yet, was around Louisa politely shut up.
"I'm going to hand out some more blankets to those who didn't get any up in the tower and be right back." Louisa duplicated many many blankets up there with Spike and both of them already gave them to most of the 'claws. "I think we should wait for the sheets to build the tent slash tentS." Sheets can only be provided by the professors so unless professor Vee came back with some, they just had to sit here on their sleeping bags and chitchat.
"She brought you guys candy?" he perked up. "You didn't give me any candy that day," he teased, gently nudging Em in the side with his elbow. "I was starving, and you decided to go suck up to the prefects instead of sharing with a starving boy?" The wide grin on his face clearly showed that he was not mad in the slightest; he was just being a pest.
...Tomato faces?
"...Tomato faces?"
If Max's face hadn't been the reddest it could be, he was sure it was there now. "Thanks, Louisa. Appreciate that." He didn't - but he still wasn't mad. He just shook his head and gave her a 'I'm going to get you for embarrassing us later' kind of smile.
But then she genuinely congratulated them, and Max beamed. "Thanks," he said again, and this time Em received his smile. He squeezed the Hufflepuff's hand gently. See? She was TOTALLY liked and welcomed and... people approved of their relationship. That was the best feeling. Text Cut: Vickers Quote:

....... Em was Max' girl?
He eyed his roommate with a knowing smirk. Well no wonder you seem to be hitting the sack a lot later than I ever remember you being." he chuckled, and gave a friendly wave at the Hufflepuff red-head "Hey there Em" Yup he knew her back when they bumped into each other at the bowling alley. Literally. Whoduthinkit that the gal would be Max' future squeeze eh?
Vickers was not a subtle one either, it seemed, and Max continued to shake his head at his fellow seventh year Ravenclaws. "Thanks for noticing, Vick." Text Cut: Spike Quote:

Things actually seemed fairly organised after the chaos they'd encountered upstairs on first realising everyone was locked out.
With that decided, Spike figured he could just chill a bit until Prof V needed him to do something. His heart locked up as he saw Beezus, and so he purposely turned away from her and Vivi to the gathering of seventh years.
"Max, Vickers," he said with a friendly nod in greeting. "Mind if I gatecrash the seventh year party?" He grinned. They wouldn't turn the Prefect away, right? Unless they was some super secret seventh year planning going on? Did that even happen...?
Oh, and where were his manners? "I'm not sure we've met," he said to the Hufflepuff in the group. "Spike Hutchinson," he introduced.
When good ol' Spike arrived, relief surged through Max's being. FINALLY. Someone who wasn't going to be weird or embarrass Max over Emmaleigh. Surely the prefect would just offer up some congratulatory comments, think it was cool, and DROP it, right? "Hey Spike. Where've you been?" Took him awhile to get there, hadn't it? Max had been toward the end of the mass of students who had come from the common room, and Vivi had been the last of the group. "S'no big deal," he said to the gate-crashing comment. Maybe if Spike was there, Vivi wouldn't feel out of place anymore.. and she'd come back?
Max gazed back over at Vivi, still concerned, but was quite glad to see that she and Beezus had teamed up to seemingly search for those... 'tablecloths,' or whatever it was with which Vivi was going to return to them.
