Well, that was interesting. She couldn't imagine kissing a guy when she knew he was taken. Then again she hadn't been in many relationships so she supposed the mistake could be made. The young comment made her a little curious though? How old was Sutton exactly? And had she tried to kiss Ed? Quickly she squashed the rising jealousy that threatened to throw away her good sense. Edmund was loyal to her and she had nothing to worry about.
"Well, it seems I did miss a lot. And I'm sorry that I wasn't there for you. I'm hoping it won't happen again." It probably wasn't fair to herself to feel this guilty but she did. Reaching a hand inside the pocket of her jacket she felt for the little wrapped box that was there. Butterflies took flight insider her stomach and she had to swallow some nerves before she found her voice.
Now or never Lockwood!
Nell stepped around in front of Edmund to halt his progress. Thankfully they were in a room by themselves so they wouldn't have an audience.
"So, I realize that Christmas is a couple days away but I don't want to wait that long." Her hand grabbed the package within but she hesitated before bringing it out.
"And...I don't want you to panic that you haven't gotten me anything. I'm not one of those girls that needs presents."
Her hand pulled a relatively small
package out of her pocket and held it out for Edmund.
It was nice to hear her giggling after the couple of days of tension. He beamed at her for a moment until she spoke again. She practically confirmed that she felt guilty about not being around. "It's okay, you were focusing on your work." He winked at her, understanding being buried under work completely.
When she stepped in front of him, his expression went from confusion to surprise and then to guilt as she pulled a present from her pocket. He'd got her something, but never thought to carry it around with him - he was planning on giving to her closer to Christmas. But her re-assurance made him frown slightly. Did she think he didn't have anything at all? Quickly dismissing the thought and looking back to her with an intrigued smile, Ed took the present from her and before he did anything else, he hugged her tightly and gave her a kiss. "Thank you." His eyes focused on hers for a moment before he turned his attention back to the small box in his hands.
