But by the time it had sunk in? He was halfway down the pathways. He'd not cried not once during any of the terms, but now was the closest he'd felt in years. Leaning with his back against a tree off the path he just hit his head into the tree, knowing he'd probably just killed off any chance he'd had of even fixing this with Amelia. A tear finally fell as he swiped it away fast with the back of his hand. Damn...he just couldn't even think right then. He was furious with himself. Ed had been right, don't tell Amelia.
He watched for Amelia hoping to see her coming behind him, but knowing it was futile to be hoping for that. His head dropped staring at the snow at his feet, his heart just broken, knowing that he had been the one to do this, and that she was mad enough to say that she didn't think they'd ever be okay. He just couldn't do this. It was more then enough to send him to Australia and not come back to England ever again.
And that was saying something because he didn't want to live in Australia. He wanted to find a place for Amelia and him to live in, find a job and stay in this horribly cold country just to be with her. Closing his eyes he brushed another tear firmly away with the back of his hand.
Amelia rubbed firmly at her eyes, hoping to disguise any redness that might have been there in case she ran into someone she didn't know. She didn't want anyone else to know that she'd been crying, although that would probably be inevitable.
Hoping that Ed was right when he told her that this was the direction that Isaac had been heading in she wrapped her arms around herself, trying to ward off the wind. Her clothes may be warm but without her coat she was getting cold as she trudged through the snow. She could only imagine how Isaac felt, knowing that he really couldn't stand the winter.
Just as she was about to turn around and choose another place to look she spotted Isaac leaning against a tree. He looked so dejected, and Merlin help her but part of her was glad to see it. Glad to see that her heart wasn't the only one damaged because of what he'd done. But the sensible part of her, the part that reminded her that it had been a mistake and that she really didn't want to end her relationship over one kiss, hurt to see him thus.
Taking a steadying breath she closed her eyes briefly before changing her course towards him. "I would have said yes Isaac. I would still say yes," she murmured, shivering as a sudden gust of wind went right through her. Hopefully he would understand what she was talking about here and they could go inside or something. It would be warmer in there.
