Hurricanes were NOT FUN. They weren't anything like the storm s she'd experienced in Galway, and Kendall personally dec ided that she'd rather not experience one ever again. At least, not if she had to be outside in it. Shield or no, it didn't matter and besides, her weather shield had done nothing to prevent the pain of being hit by the piece of thatched roof. And it hadn't helped keep the sand that was flying all over from trying to creep under the edges of her clothing, into her boots... Hurricanes were just evil and she wished that this one was over with. She hadn't let go of her death grip on the tree trunk, either, even though it had practically bent her so she was parallel to the sandy floor. Not on the ground, as that would have meant the tree had broken, but it wasn't exactly fun watching people flying around sideways. Until the trunk snapped back upright as the wind shifted, and she almost lost her grip. Almost. Somehow, she managed to keep hold even as the thatch spun sideways and slammed into her again, snagging on the toe of one of her boots. Along with something long and thin, and she craned her neck around to look at it.

A rope?, she wondered, trying to figure out where it had come from. There hadn't been any ropes that she'd seen before, but then it was hard to see much other than silhouettes anymore. Especially with the rainwater flowing down her face, thankfully washing any sand away from her eyes but not exactly helping otherwise. At least I haven't gotten hit by a coconut or something, she thought. It wasn't worth trying to speak, since that only would mean getting sand in her mouth and sand definitely didn't taste good. She'd heard the cries from others getting hit by things, anyway, so she was than kful her tree seemed out of that zone. She just had the stupid thatch that kept hitting her, and as she had that thought, the rope that had appeared gave her an idea. Not a very good one, but maybe it would protect her from sand for a little while. Professor Bellaire hadn't said they couldn't try to come up with other cover than their shield. Her taking things literally hadn't worked yet, but right now she was desperate.

Snagging the rope with her fingers, pretty much the only thing she was willing to risk loosening from the trunk even temporarily, she slid down to a rough seated position at the base of her tree. Now to see if this would work. Position ing the thatch over her, she let go with one hand to loop an edge of the rope inside part of the roofing, then pulled it around the trunk tight before awkwardly tying it off above her head. And then she slipped her wand out, cutting the rope off to give her extra, that she used to tie the two bottom corners to the tree as well, creating a tiny little cocoon that she could huddle inside. Back to the tree trunk as she prepared to hopefully wait out the rest of the hurricane. As long as nothing hard slammed into the debris covering her.
