At her clarification, Spike gave a sheepish shrug of his shoulders. "Trying to be useful, I guess," he said, his lips curling into a crooked grin. Though, perhaps conjuring a pillow might have been more practical? Or more appreciated? Unfortunately for Beezus, he didn't trust his wandwork that much.
The main thing was that she was okay. "No broken bones?" he queried, though he doubted it. She'd just said she was okay and wasn't screaming her head off...which probably meant that, yes, she was, in fact, okay. She was a tough girl - as evidenced by the fact she played Quidditch, and loved Spike's critters as much as he did. Evidence that she was no ordinary squeamish girl. But nevertheless, he wanted to check, just to be certain. She was probably a bit shaken up, finding herself laying on her best friend's older brother. "You can stay there for the moment if you'd like," he found himself saying, adjusting his shoulder to make it a less bony pillow, and gently brushing her hair out the way.
As she reached up to his face, Spike's heart pounded inside his near-naked chest. More noticeably though, his cheeks flushed with colour. "As long as you're sure," Spike replied, biting his lip. Emotions seemed to be jumping around right now - hovering between worry about what had happened, and enjoying the aftermath.
She was so close. He could just lean in and...
He blinked and wrinkled his nose, as she ruffled his hair and water flicked across his face. "You're giving up?" he asked with a raised eyebrow, the previous moment's thoughts now forgotten. "That easily?" His lips twitched upwards, her grin infectious. "I think we might have different definitions of 'drenched'..."
He was definitely useful alright. He just cushioned her fall.
"Thanks Spikey." Like sincerely, if he wasn't there, she knew she must've hit her head with a rock or something. Figuratively, she was still alive because of his intervention.
"So, how can I repay that good Samaritan deed?"
Nope. No broken bones. As far as she was aware of, the pains she had felt a bit earlier were slowly vanishing, and only her head now kept pounding. Beezus shook her head.
"And you?" He must've had some injuries! He literally brushed his back against the ground and judging on that shirt he was wearing, it didn't provide much of a protection.
"Are you hurt? I'm so sorry.." When he offered his shoulder to insulate her head, she didn't reject. Yeah, maybe that could help. Although...she was feeling more and more awkward as minutes trickled by. If someone saw this like this, they'd probably jump to conclusions. And just what would Indy say? Sigh. But they were
just friends.
Oh, she was sure. She was okay. The person in question now was him.
Then he was returning her grin with one of his one. Just how they still manage to act like that after that life-threatening situation that just occurred, she didn't know. Matching his playful tone, Beezus removed her head from his shoulder and sat up straight as she faced the Prefect,
"Different definitions? What do you mean?" Hmm.. "
Are you implying that I need more soaking up to really get drenched?" Oh, if he was planning on throwing her in the Spring right now, she definitely would slap him.
