Who Am I? Ern's 2460FUN

Selina had to resist the urge to pet her boyfriend on the head when he fell silent. There were two things that were stopping her: one, now was not the time or place to test her father when he was already very angry at his visit and two, she could not exactly reach his head without some struggle. So she opted to remind herself to thank him later for being silent in that moment. Selina knew how to twist her father's arm until he relented- she had been doing it since she barely knew how to talk. In this particular instance, it was only a matter of time before he marched off with a huff to his study and left the teenagers alone. Personally, she would have preferred that her father not be home at all, not because they were going to do anything bad, but because now Gideon was going to be paranoid his entire visit.

"Well," she snapped, "I don't need you to help me! I may be sixteen years old, but you raised me better than to assume what you are assuming." Selina was not stupid. She understood the implications of what her father was saying in the most underhanded manner. And she was a little offended that he would jump to such conclusions. It was just another example of how much her father did not know Gideon. He was more respectful to Selina, except when they were in one of their tickle wars, then anyone she had ever met. He was a really nice guy, she just wished her father would take his head out of his bum and see that.

Crossing her arms over her chest, she added, "You need to trust me when I tell you that we aren't lying to you." Besides, everyone knew that Selina was an awful liar. She would not have been able to lie to her father if she had not been telling the truth.

The boy remained quiet, which he had to admit was probably a smart move on his end, however his daughter had the quite the mouth on herself. She knew exactly how to back her dear old father into a wall and now he could not say anything without running the risk of looking like an unreasonable jerk who did not trust his daughter. It was not that he did not trust Selina, it was that he did not trust the situation. In his eyes, Selina would forever be the little redheaded four year old whose auburn curls bounced behind her as she ran down the pitch with a cookie in hand. The whole idea of her having a boyfriend was not something that he was comfortable with. In his mind, the only male who should love her in her life should be her Daddy and this boy had somehow swooped in and took his place.

Jake was many things, but he was not dumb. Before he had left for summer training he got glimpses of the bracelet that his daughter never took off. And he did not need to know what it said to know what it meant to his sixteen year old daughter. Her having a boyfriend did not sit well in his stomach and that was why he was reacting the way he was- he just didn't like the idea of her getting older.

He sighed, "I do trust you, Selina. I just don't trust the situation..." And now he was folding like he always knew he would eventually do, "BUT.... if you say nothing was going on, then I believe you." Now the room was filled to the brim with an awkward aura. Jake did not exactly trust leaving two teenagers alone, much less one that was of age, but he could not exactly stand there anymore. "I'm going to head back to the kitchen and finish making myself breakfast. I don't care what you guys do today, just keep the doors open."

...so maybe he didn't exactly trust them all that much. But he did enough that he collected his things and returned to the kitchen.
