Gideon backed down as Selina cut him off, trying her own attempt to rectify the situation and prove that it was neither of their faults. Okay so maybe his use of fault had been wrong in his explaination of what had happened, but as Selina pointed out it was an innocent action of a meeting on the grounds of the house and nothing had happened, especially anything bad that would warrant the protective father in the mix getting all upset. Though he wasn't going to argue with him about being just a tad overprotective.
He wasn't about to want to be beaten by spoon...or worse....wand.
He watched Jake to see what kind of reaction they were to get from the older man from each of their arguments. It seemed however that the man wasn't sure what to say, he himself going quiet until Selina was finally finished with her speech. And then it was almost a back peddle to combat the surprise he had gotten by his daughter's accusation of mistrust. Selina had guts but obviously knew when to use the guilt card. The prefect himself stayed quiet, unsure of what role he played at the time.
