Post Tom Felton panel discussion video on Harry Potter, photos from Chicago Comic-Con

Tom Felton was one of the celebrity guests who attended the Wizard World Chicago Comic-Con, where he had the chance to greet fans and take part in a panel discussion, where he of course talked about his role in the Harry Potter film series. SnitchSeeker correspondent expectogirl was on hand at the panel chat, and recorded the over half-hour segment. That, as well as highlights, can be viewed and read below.

Tom Felton made an appearance at The Wizard World Chicago Comic Con this past Friday and Saturday. Tom first posed for photographs and signed autographs for a long line of Harry Potter fans, many who were appropriately dressed in their Slytherin robes. Next Tom spoke in a panel Q&A where he answered questions related to the Harry Potter films and also touched on his work in Rise of The Planet of The Apes. Highlights from the panel are below:

What animal should Draco’s patronus be?
Tom:
Oh man, you are going to get me in trouble straight away. A snake, right? If it was realistic it would be a dog. Or a ferret. Yeah, a ferret.

Do you know about A Very Potter Musical?
Tom:
I would have to be living under a rock if I hadn’t.

What do you think of Lauren Lopez’s portrayal of Draco Malfoy?
Tom:
She should have got the part. She should be sitting up here not me.

Have you read fan fiction?
Tom:
I’ve dabbled. I struggle. Some worrying illustrations. Some photographs.

Are you happy they didn’t go “50 Shades of Gray” with it?
Tom:
Don’t encourage, I can see it now “50 Shades of Draco”.

Where did you get the inspiration for your character in The Planet of the Apes because he was so much more terrible than Draco ever was? And you are so nice in person.
Tom:
It was easy in the first few pages it describes him as…well the first time we see the guy he mocks Caesar and does a sort of chimp impression as to say “How stupid you are”. I think the western world sympathizes with defenseless animals and to see this guy deliberately provoking him just for fun it’s hard to give the benefit of the doubt to someone like that. Yeah I don’t think it was a conscious decision it was the writing.

Now that the Harry Potter movies are over do you have anything in particular that you are looking for in film roles now?
Tom:
Anything that steers me towards being James Bond one day. (Laughs) Anything that challanges me, I think the worst part to play for me myself would be someone constantly second guessing everything he ever did, it’s really nice to play someone like Draco who although he’s quite a complex character, he’s very black and white in many respects.

It’s nice to think when you are playing a character this is exactly what he would do and there’s no kinda second guessing. Yeah I think as different as possible not necessarily bad guys. I got to play a heroic French prince in a TV series I did recently that was just fun riding horses and killing bad guys. I enjoyed that, anything that takes me out of the muggle world of today really. Thank you.
