Kate had missed his reaction, mainly because her mind was too preoccupied with the fact that he still wasn't saying anything. Even a nod would've sufficed. Then again, if he'd nodded, she would've missed it too.
His breathing had changed. That much she noticed.
And then..., and then..., and then she was completely caught off guard. Her head was no longer on his shoulder, that's for sure, and her mind was having issues as it tried to make sense to her answer. One she should give him soon, right? The weird thing is, she already knew what her answer was, but she was speechless.
So, she'd been right about the kiss, then? That was why he blushed? Because he likes her? Kate was the one blushing now. There was even a smile on her face as her eyes found his. "Yes, of course." 'I like you, too' would've been a perfect reply too, but she couldn't bring herself to say that yet. Even if she felt the same way about him.
He felt the weight leave his shoulder and he panicked.
If she took her head off my shoulder, that's a bad sign, right? The pace of his wildly-thumping heart quickened even more at this realization. He began mentally preparing himself for rejection, not willing to let his disappointment show on his face. He cast his gaze downwards to make it easier on her.
She shouldn't have to look me in the eye to tell me no.
The seconds ticked away, each feeling like several minutes to the anxious Captain. He had finally cemented the idea that she would say no in his head when she opened her mouth. Despite himself, his eyes snapped onto her.
She said... yes?!?!?! The creature in his chest roared in triumph. "
Really?! I mean," he said hastily, trying to sound confident instead of too relieved or surprised. "
That's fantastic. This Friday after lessons. Meet me in the common room here."
He rose. "
Okay, I promised my mum I would write straight away and tell her what you said!" He winced a bit.
Total dork moment, Keef. "
Er, well, she was interested, at any rate..." Smooooooth. He should also send an owl to Treyen, because he would enjoy the news as well.
