So he thinks he's doing well with this. Now it was Kurumi's turn to incise this time. Jonathan thought she'd be hesitant to take the scalpel from him in the first place, so he was a bit surprised when she took them after he offered.
For now, Jonathan is just looking at Kurumi as she tries to slice the plimpy as well. Jonathan's eyes then shifted to her. She looked a bit nervous while she was looking at the plimpy. Then suddenly as the blade cut through the scales, Kurumi's eyes went shot. WHOAH! WHOAH! She shouldn't close her eyes, she might cut deeper than she expects. Jonathan's eyes widened. He was about to stop her as his right hand quickly reached for her hand with the scalpel---- BUT, then she looked like she handled the procedure correctly. Jonathan's hand quickly retracted and is now back on the table.
Her hand trembling didn't go unnoticed to him. So she did feel nervous but she already did great with the incising of the plimpy. Job well done. But then he can still see both her hands were trembling. He immediately took the scalpel that was on the tray and started to cut all the fins as the professor also told them to do. Not looking at her and focusing on the plimpy, Jonathan swallowed and finally uttered something to her, "Try shaking your hands for awhile." for the first time in months.
Once the fins where removed, he placed them all on the tray. Technically, he can't offer Kurumi the scalpel again seeing as her hands are still shaking. Maybe later. The next procedure is a bit difficult. They need to rotate the legs one at a time.... widely.... until you hear them pop out of the sockets? Uhmmmmm... Jonathan frowned a bit looking at the plimpy. He saw the professor's demonstration and it didn't seem hard.
Taking the left leg first, he rotated it once just like what he saw earlier and Jonathan felt it detach from it's on socket. And he did the same thing with the right leg. Right now, the plimpies legs just looked.... not normal. It's legs were both loose.
But before he do the next procedure, his gaze turned back to Kurumi. His eyes flickered once more as he stared at her hands this time. Is she okay now? Jonathan was willing to continue if she's still shaking.
It was probably a good thing that Kurumi didn't see Jonathan reaching for her because it probably would have caused her heart to stop beating or something. At least a gasp. Physical contact, even the anticipation of it, with Jonathan was something that Kurumi was not expecting to ever have again. Then again, she never thought that she would be sitting right next to him in class...working
together. So, no, she did not notice his movements and had finished what she was doing.
Her trembling paused for a brief moment when she heard him speak, her eyes blinking in utter disbelief. His first words to her in months...right there...had been advice...comforting... and she was clearly reading way too much into this. Kurumi bit down on her lower lip, chewing it absently, and turned her gaze away from him and towards the plimpy as he began to do the next step.
Try shaking your hands for awhile...
Which is exactly what Kurumi ended up doing. She shook both her hands at ones, breathing in and out deeply and slowly as she did in attempt to calm her racing heartbeat. She had done it though, taken the first step and had done it properly...hopefully.
The plimpy did look a little ridiculous like that, both its legs out of its sockets and what not. The good thing, for Kurumi at least, was that it was beginning to look less and less like a creature and more like...nothing at all really. Kurumi picked up the scalpel and scooted a little closer to Jonathan - she DID need to be closer to the plimpy for this next bit and seeing as it was closer to his side of the station it only made sense. Her hands were still trembling slightly and she caught his eyes looking at them. "
I...I'm okay," she whispered, not actually looking at him as she did and instead slowly inserted the blade into the plimpy and carefully removed its legs and set them on the tray, watching them vanish after a few seconds into storage.
