Only it seemed he really was keeping his word, that he would never speak to her again. He was leaving her no other choice but to accept that.
Kurumi reached for the scalpel, but Jonathan got to it first and she retracted her hand while he worked, trying her best to watch carefully what he was doing while she jotted down notes for the steps they needed to take when Jonathan was offering her the blade. Looking up at him, and not the blade, she sort of just watched him for a moment and him biting his lip before she slowly accepted it from him.
She would have said thank you, but with them not talking it seemed pointless.
Casting Scourgify on it again, just to make sure that it was clean for the next incision as well, Kurumi took a very deep and shaky breath as she lowered it towards the opposite side of the plimpy. The side Jonathan hadn't just cut into. She paused for a moment, unsure that she could actually do this, but with Jonathan's eyes on her she felt like she had to. Or she was just reading too much into his gaze. The blade slipped under the scales and Kurumi shut her eyes tight for a moment as she applied a little bit of pressure and felt the blade cut through flesh...which sort of made her gasp softly.
Moving quickly, but with attention to detail, Kurumi continued to cut while her hands noticeably trembled. However, she somehow found herself with a fin removed from her side and she promptly placed it in the tray. Her hands still shaking, she attempted to hand the scalpel back to Jonathan so he could start on his side of the plimpy with the next step. Her eyes were back on his foolishly looking for some sort of comfort there because she was freaking out inside her head right now. After making his first incision on the plimpy, Jonathan felt at ease with how deep it was. The incising wasn't that deep, he saw how Professor Lafay sliced it, hopefully he did pretty well with this step. Jonathan has never exactly incised a creature before. So he thinks he's doing well with this. Now it was Kurumi's turn to incise this time. Jonathan thought she'd be hesitant to take the scalpel from him in the first place, so he was a bit surprised when she took them after he offered.
For now, Jonathan is just looking at Kurumi as she tries to slice the plimpy as well. Jonathan's eyes then shifted to her. She looked a bit nervous while she was looking at the plimpy. Then suddenly as the blade cut through the scales, Kurumi's eyes went shot. WHOAH! WHOAH! She shouldn't close her eyes, she might cut deeper than she expects. Jonathan's eyes widened. He was about to stop her as his right hand quickly reached for her hand with the scalpel---- BUT, then she looked like she handled the procedure correctly. Jonathan's hand quickly retracted and is now back on the table.
Her hand trembling didn't go unnoticed to him. So she did feel nervous but she already did great with the incising of the plimpy. Job well done. But then he can still see both her hands were trembling. He immediately took the scalpel that was on the tray and started to cut all the fins as the professor also told them to do. Not looking at her and focusing on the plimpy, Jonathan swallowed and finally uttered something to her, "Try shaking your hands for awhile." for the first time in months.
Once the fins where removed, he placed them all on the tray. Technically, he can't offer Kurumi the scalpel again seeing as her hands are still shaking. Maybe later. The next procedure is a bit difficult. They need to rotate the legs one at a time.... widely.... until you hear them pop out of the sockets? Uhmmmmm... Jonathan frowned a bit looking at the plimpy. He saw the professor's demonstration and it didn't seem hard.
Taking the left leg first, he rotated it once just like what he saw earlier and Jonathan felt it detach from it's on socket. And he did the same thing with the right leg. Right now, the plimpies legs just looked.... not normal. It's legs were both loose.
But before he do the next procedure, his gaze turned back to Kurumi. His eyes flickered once more as he stared at her hands this time. Is she okay now? Jonathan was willing to continue if she's still shaking.
