What if he did something wrong? What if his hands slipped and he accidentally hurt the plant? What if it woke up then? It was going to eat them! Him first and then Louisa! Or maybe the other way round. Since she was right in front of it now.

Closing his eyes for a moment to take yet another deep breath, Lewis tried not to think too much about what he was doing and where his hands were. Okay, he could do this. This was going to be fine. They were both going to be perfectly fine.

His eyes fluttered open again and focused on her when she muttered something about the plant looking scary. "Try holding its mouth open..." Now THAT was scary. And he wasn't even allowed to shudder like she was doing now. Because then he might just hurt the plant and wake it up. If that was possible.

Couldn't they just work on those other plants too? On those that didn't look THAT scary.

Lewis stared right back when she met his gaze, not wanting to look down at what he was holding or else he was pretty sure the panic that was slowly rising inside of him might just...make him run out of the class. The lips? He wrinkled his nose and glanced down for a second so he could shift his hands a little to do as Louisa had asked him to.

UGH! Couldn't she just hurry?!
