Yes. I believe that one should be able to eat and drink in the library, but that these items should be monitored and within limits. No bringing a pizza right out of the oven for you to eat while flipping through your textbook for example. I believe that cold foods should be allowed, but people should be considerate and avoid smelly, greasy and messy food as well as food in noisy packaging. This can be very disruptive to those trying to focus on reading and research. As a simple example, apple slices would be alright, but perhaps something like grapefruit should not since the citrus smell can be rather overpowering.

During extensive study sessions, like what I experienced last term for my OWLs, it was very distracting and inefficient to have to leave my study table, head to the Great Hall for coffee and water, and then return and attempt to pick up where I had left off. I believe that more students would utilize the library if they were allowed to eat and drink in it within reason. I certainly gave up after a while and simply studied in my own common room to avoid shuffling back and forth between different locations.

This being said, as a wizarding school, I would hope that all books and reading materials have already been charmed to repel things like grease and liquids as a precaution. If not, I would be more than happy to help organize a group of students to make this so.

The word itself, library, comes from the Latin word liber which means book. This itself implies that a library is a place of learning. However, I would like to say that a library is not just a place for learning, but rather exploring, as not all books here are simply academic based. I often come here to read fairy tales and fables that take me away and allow me to explore new worlds and possibilities. Likewise, academic books allow me to explore a new way of thinking and challenge myself.
