That reassured her, for one, Holli could still tell what she was thinking, and two, it didn't really matter if Maine was her friend. They'd never even be sisters, let alone twins.
'Aaaah, I might never do,' she stuck her tongue out, feeling Holli squeeze her hand tighter. Allie tried not to flinch, but Holli's sweaty grip was getting tighter, but she needed to be there for her twin now more than ever. Allie promised herself she wouldn't move from her twin until she had to.
Holli laughed quietly and nodded, grinning.
'If you make me cry, I won't be able to take it...' she said, wiping her own eyes. She wasn't even sure why she was crying, either happiness, pain, or a mixture of both. Eh. But she could see the clockworks going through Allie's head and shook her own, whispering to her.
'You're my best friend. And twin. Got it?' she said sternly, making sure no one else could hear.
Holli shook her head, as if to say that that was rubbish and winced as another shoot of pain shot through her. She was doing all she could not to scream now, but she knew she just had to wait it out. It'd be fine. She'd have a little girl or boy afterwards to look after. It was worth it. In. Out. In. Out.
