"It's not okay," he said into her shoulder, his lip showing signs of wibbling. "I love flying, and now I won't be able to. And everyone will get better than me, including Indy, and then I won't get back on the team. And..." Sigh. He looked up and sniffed. "Is it worth talking to Vindictus? So I might still be able to do something.?"
He nestled his head back down. He really didn't want to think about not playing. Or the broom he'd been waiting forever to earn.
Hang on. Ellie would help him with transfiguration? Spike sniffed, and looked up once more, his blue eyes wide. "Anything would be awesome, if you wouldn't mind," he said with nod. "I'm honestly terrible. I just don't get it. I'll do you a swap with some Herbology or something if you like. I know you'll be busy with practice and stuffs." If he could up his grades just a little bit, his parents might relax towards the broom. And he wouldn't have to admit to Indy quite how bad he was...or how much better she was. And with a new super broom, he might stand a chance getting back on the team next year.
"Are you any good at charms, too?"
"Shhhh," Ellie said, wrapping her other arm around the boy as well. It
was okay, okay? Ravenclaw was losing a valuable player, sure, but that was nothing Spike should worry about. And Merlin forbid they lose a match, the last thing the Captain wanted was for Spike to blame himself.
A few years ago, she would kneel here to talk to him. But, Merlin, the boy had grown so much. Instead, Ellie placed her hands on those round cheeks of his and gently forced his face up.
"You can still fly, Spike. You know Vindictus opens the Pitch to others. And I'll tell you what," because he was truly breaking her heart,
"I'll practice with you on our own time. I have more free time now that I'm not taking so many classes, and was planning to fill it with Quidditch anyway. Okay?" It was true. She might as well help keep Spike in tip-top Quidditch form.
As for Vindictus...What? Did Spike want to be the water-boy of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team or something? That was a bit silly.
"I think you'll be much more valuable in the stands. We're going to need someone to keep up the Ravenclaw spirit." Especially now that Bentley betrayed them all. She had been the biggest fan. Or seemed to be, at least. How deceiving, she was.
Her hands left his face and wrapped around his shoulders again. He could take his time in her shoulder. Really. It was perfectly fine.
Heh. This was a bit better. Ellie gave him a kind smile, shaking her head.
"I'll help you free of charge. No swaps necessary." Besides, she wasn't taking Herbology and was pretty good with Care of Magical Creatures on her own.
And Charms?
"Yup, it's my-" No, no, she couldn't say that anymore, could she? Stupid OWL.
"It's one of my best subjects." Even THAT wasn't really true anymore, it seemed. If it truly was her best subject, she'd have an Outstanding in it, wouldn't she? Even so, Ellie almost always got a Charm right on the first or second try. So, yeah, she was good.
