She looked out at the pond where a few ducks were floating and flipping their wings. Others were picking up some bread crusts perhaps? Louisa smiled and nodded, "Yeah, they're cute." Chuckling, she added, "Which's why I didn't bring Viola along. I mean she is a lazy cat compared to other cats but... I couldn't depend on that for her not to attack the duckies." The good-looking man would be mad then and she still had to take a picture of him to show Kita during Christmas break.
Luckily, Adam was even more eager to know. Well.. there goes her ranting. She quickly crossed her legs and took on a serious face expressions. "I know, right?" SCOFF. "Your best mate, my dear friend, is an idiot." Not the cheerful start Adam would've hoped for but... well, it was true. "I was there tending to my own business in the library when he just popped out of nowhere!" A dramatic wave of the hand to enhance her story. "Well, he was there looking for Merlin knows what, and I thought that being sixteen and going on seventeen would be enough for him to quit his silly attitude but it only seemed to turn him into a ..." Sigh. "I dunno. We were talking." Adam would know that their conversation was basically a lengthy banter and witty comments thrown at each other, "And then he leaned in to tell me that yo-" Woooooow. Louisa's face blushed a bit and she widened her eyes at the almost slip-up. "...something." Very lame save but hopefully Adam won't ask about it. "Hadley and Roslun decided to show up right then. They thought we were... about to.. you know." She made a melodramatic face at the mere thought of them kissing or flirting.
There. She had told him the basic story. Dropping her shoulder in a sad posture, she pouted, "My reputation is ruined. Everybody now knows I served detention with Paulie. There is one place to hold double detentions and that's in that awful place." Lovers' Lair. HMPH.
They were cute. Adam couldn't help but smile as one sort of rolled head first into the water trying to catch a piece of bread that was just out of its grasp. If Adam was a duck he was pretty sure that he would be that duck.
"I can't even imagine how JB would handle an encounter with a duck. I feel like he would probably chase the poor thing around insisting that all he wanted to do was play while at the same time terrifying the little guy." Adam couldn't help but chuckle at the visual.
"Viola never did meet JB did she?" Adam asked with a small frown.
"I wonder how they would have gotten on."
As soon as Louisa started talking about the detention, Adam was all eyes and ears on Louisa. At the first comment about Paulie being an idiot, Adam couldn't help but chuckle. It wasn't hard for him to imagine while practical Louisa would find Paulie's humorous demeanor to mean he was an idiot. The smile remained on his face as Louisa said he appeared out of nowhere considering he was sure Paulie would have snuck up on her just to get a reaction. After all Paulie did seem to like to pester Louisa on a pretty consistent basis.
And then Louisa stopped mid-sentence, a shocked look on her face like the kind one gets when they almost let something slip that they don't want to know. Did she say "you"? What exactly was Paulie going to tell her about him, because the you was obviously meant to signify him. And Paulie was leaning in to tell her? Wait...surely Paulie wouldn't have let slip to Louisa that he still had feelings for her? That would just be absurd? Although why were Louisa's cheeks starting to flush? Instinctively Adam felt his own start to turn a slight red color at her embarrassment. When Louisa concluded with something Adam's feeling that he needed to be concerned was confirmed. Whenever he saw Paulie he was going to get an explanation because prying Louisa to tell him what he said would just make the situation worse.
Although even the creeping feeling that Adam needed to be embarrassed even though he was clueless as to what Paulie said, it was nothing compared to how red his cheeks flushed when Adam realized why Paulie and Louisa had gotten the detention.
"Well...uh...wow. They must not know you very well," Adam said with a nervous little chuckle.
"And your reputation is not ruined," Adam said with a small shake of the head.
"Sure Paulie is a bit of a goof, but he's a Gryffindor at heart and a great friend, so if anyone tries to make you feel embarrassed just tell them to shove off." Of Adam would literally make them shove off...
A small silence fell as Adam wondered whether or not this was the right time to share his news. After all, he hadn't told anyone yet, not even his grandfather this tid bit of news. In all honesty it was probably because Adam was in denial and was still trying to wrap his brain around the whole situation.
